“Mi Vida” translates to “My Life.” However, in Mexico, “Mi Vida” means much more. “Mi Vida” is a term of endearment bestowed on close family and friends to signify love, care and importance. When one says, “Mi Vida,” they are telling someone special how much they mean to them. MI VIDA describes how we feel about our team and our guests. It is our expression of Mexican culture and cuisine as interpreted through the lens of Chef Roberto Santibañez. Our menu is rooted in the history and culinary tradition of Mexico while exploring the ever-changing boundaries of this vibrant and evolving cuisine.

Haikan is our second Sapporo Ramen shop in DC after Daikaya. Haikan means, “pipe works” in Japanese, an ode to Atlantic Plumbing Building where we are located. At Haikan, we focused on creating the taste of ramen from the showa period, the golden age of ramen in Japan. There are over 1000 ramen shops in the city of Sapporo alone, and we are excited to share a completely new line-up of traditional Sapporo style ramen in DC. In addition to ramen, we are serving a playful selection of Japanese-inspired kozara (small plates) to share, or to start with, or to make a whole meal of by picking a few of them. Haikan's bar serves a collection of Japanese-inspired cocktails, and a concentrated selection of Japanese sake, shochu, beer, whisky, and more.

The three of us ordered from the $40 per person (3 courses) DC Winter Restaurant Week menu. It was excellent! There were numerous options for appetizers and entrees. One person had the guacamole and chips, which we shared. Another ordered tortilla soup, and the third had the shrimp cocktail salad. All were delicious. The shrimp cocktail was truly outstanding! Entree orders: chicken enchiladas (not spicy at all), pork (“cochinito pibil”), and the Veracruz-style fish with refried black beans and white rice. Again, all were delicious. The pork and the fish dishes were truly outstanding. There were two dessert choices: a citrus “Tres Leches” cakes and Espresso Flan, very rich with just the right amount of coffee taste. I preferred the flan, and my friend liked her Citrus Tres Leches. In other words, you can’t go wrong. Bottom Line: Great, upscale Mexican restaurant with excellent ambience! The menu offers a lot of variety. I highly recommend getting out of your comfort zone and trying different dishes. We had questions about the levels of “picante,” and the waiter was very helpful. Don’t miss Restaurant Week at La Vida in Penn Quarter.

Amazing meal from the beat shared app to the Fluke and Beef Bourguignon entrees. Perfectly done. Great atmosphere, lively but not loud or overcrowded. Fantastic service by everyone who steps in to deliver your food. Gratuity is included in the bill but well deserved. Will be back!
