Thomas Makris, from the Island of Skopelos, fell in love when he met Helen Babalos. They met at Orestes Greek restaurant in 1974, while on a Greek dancing tour of North America. Soon after their marriage, they had a vision to open a place like no other in Vancouver; a Greek restaurant where everyone is family; where everyone receives a consistent experience created by delicious homemade authentic food and impeccable service. In 1984 they opened Anatoli Souvlaki in north Vancouver. Opening their first location in the spring of 1984, Helen Babalos & Thomas Makris brought us Anatoli Souvlaki. They had a dream of combining the food of Greece with great service to add some Mediterranean style to the North Vancouver restaurant selection. They opened in the sleepy neighbourhood of lower Lonsdale and lived above the restaurant to ensure the quality and service.     Had a fantastic dining experience at Selene. Our server made great recommendations for both food and beverage and the overall experience was wonderful. Stand out dish for me was the mussels with green olive focaccia although we also had the octopus, lamb ribs and patatas; all of which were delicious. We capped off the night with the orange almond cake, which was incredibly tasty, with just the right amount of sweetness to it. Would definitely recommend this place and look forward to returning and trying more of the menu.

    What an incredible experience we had at this restaurant. There is live music (when we were there, a man walked around the restaurant and played the violin). We ordered the feast menu which allows you to taste so many of the dishes. And all of them were delicious! THe staff is very attentive, and they even came over and sang happy birthday (with the musician!) to my (very embarassed!) husband. They even wrote a hand-written note acknowledging the celebration. What a lovely touch! This was a perfect way to learn about the various dishes and have a wonderful evening

    What an amazing experience at Loula’s for my best friend’s birthday! We had a big group of 10 and our experience was excellent from before we even sat down. The wonderful Sierra worked some magic to fit our big table in and then the incredible Paige took phenomenal care of us all night! The food and drinks were top notch – I already can’t wait to go back. Thank you Loula’s!

    Exceptional food and wonderful choices of beverages. The staff was great with the kids and could recognize when to check in with parents about drink options. Our server was excellent at recognizing when we needed more time, when we needed help, and who to talk to in order to minimize disruptions or interruptions. The meats and seafood were prepared to perfect finishes. Portions suggested were reasonable and the overall bill was actually quite reasonable for a meal of this calibre.
