Steeped in history, The Lion dates back about 500 years, and was built when King Charles I was on the British throne and even before the famous Gunpowder Plot of 1605. AA Accredited - COVID-19 ConfidentWe are not a ‘fancy pants’ establishment. Not in the least. We offer good quality, home-cooked, locally sourced (where possible) food. 90% of our menu is made on the premises. Certainly not ‘Pub Grub’ but not ‘Gastro Pub’ either. It’s good value for money. However, our standards are high, very high. Not only in the quality of the food that comes into and leaves the kitchen but also in the presentation, the delivery to the table and overall customer service. We’re definitely not ‘Silver Service’ either but all of our staff are attentive, smartly dressed and will always go that extra mile wherever they can. These are just some of the reasons we were awarded the Taste of the West GOLD award in 2019. We are a dog friendly establishment, very dog friendly. However, please tell us at the time of booking so that we can place you in our Bar area , as opposed to our Restaurant.

    The event we were attending was fully booked, starting at 7.30 p.m. So we booked our table for 5.30 p.m. when the venue started serving dinner, so that we had plenty of time. This worked very well. We will do the same thing later this month for another event. The venue became very busy, but ordering was very well organised, service was quick and efficient. The menu was varied and portions were generous. We would recommend a booking at this venue.

    The food was excellent, being a Monday it was quiet which I appreciated. The only draw back was the bench seat, too narrow for comfort. But as I had chosen to sit there this was down to me. I will know better in future.

    Our first Sunday lunch visit to Farm and Field Cafe after moving to Somerset from Australia 3 weeks ago. All I can say is “Excellent “, it is one of the best meals we have had since our return to the UK. Outstanding flavours and well cooked, I highly recommend to anyone considering Sunday lunch or any lunch out. Also for the Coeliacs amongst us the GF choices were plentiful and you definitely don’t miss out on a great Sunday lunch.
