Water Lane is a restaurant based within a working market garden in the High Weald of Kent. Guided by the seasons, our menu reflects its sense of place in the English countryside where we grow our own vegetables and use local suppliers. Nestling in the heart of the beautiful Kentish Weald-the Garden of England, the Star and Eagle Hotel is located in the village of Goudhurst. Standing over 400ft above sea level, there are outstanding views of the surrounding orchards and hop gardens for which the area is renowned. Dating back to the 14th century, the Star and Eagle has played a significant role in the local history, and was once reputed to have been an ancient monastery. Relics of the vaulted stonework of the period are still visible in some parts of the building. During the 18th century the Inn became the headquarters of the "Hawkhurst Gang", who robbed and terrorised the surrounding district, and planned smuggling raids. Our second time eating here, first time was lunch and now dinner, couldn’t fault it! The food is first class, the staff are attentive and so friendly. I was driving so didn’t have a drink and the manager very kindly offered me a non alcoholic fizz on the house, which was delicious. We weren’t rushed the food came out in perfect time and cooked to perfection! Highly recommend and we will definitely return!

Great Saturday morning family brunch at Water Lane. Nick and Ian do a brilliant job as hosts and the staff are so friendly and helpful with a large group and young children. Such delicious choices and the banana loaf with maple butter amazing. Great location and the glass houses just make it the most interesting place for brunch, lunch or dinner.

This is a restaurant for that very Special occasion....Why only Special? Because it is a Special place to enjoy fine dining at its best. Exquisite tasting plates of food, locally sourced alcohol, beautiful ambience, welcoming and attentive staff. It is on the higher price side but every mouthful is worth every penny. Thank you Tom, Your Head chef and all your staff for a Very Special Evening.

All the dishes were delicious and stylish, and I really enjoyed myself. The staff were very attentive, making the experience pleasant and comfortable. This is a restaurant I would definitely like to visit again. The breakfast was also incredibly tasty.
