Poggio is a classic Italian trattoria with comfortable neighborhood charm and destination-caliber cuisine. Created by Larry Mindel, who also founded numerous other restaurants in the Bay Area and beyond, Poggio has been ranked among the very best Italian restaurants since it opened. Led by Executive Chef and Partner Ben Balesteri, Poggio’s daily changing menus use the best available local ingredients including dishes inspired by the seasonal bounty of our local farmers, ranchers and fishermen and the traditional methods of Italy, including wood-fired ovens, house made pastas from scratch and a wide variety of dishes serving guests breakfast, lunch, and dinner. We’re honored to have been awarded a Bib Gourmand distinction by the Michelin guide in 2017, 2018, and along with being named Best Italian restaurant in Marin County by Marin Magazine in 2021.

This was one of the best restaurants we have eaten at in the Bay Area this year. Loved the drinks the antipasto loves the mains. And desserts. The service was great. When in Sausalito go there. And try a scotch sour. My favorite drink! They made the best yet!

We have been going to Poggio for years. We have seen it through ups and downs. We only recently returned and the food is excellent again, but the service only mediocre. There was a large 2 table holiday party that our waiter was assigned to in addition to the 8 tables in our section. Bad management call as he was definitely challenged getting around to everyone. We waited A LOT. Yes he was nice and apologetic but when you are also waiting for coffee and dessert (which is usually quick) it was a bad ending . I ended up getting outbid my seat and asking the waiter from another section to help us out with dessert & coffee. Dessert came and coffee was brought about 15min after the desserts by original waiter. Really? Poor choice again. Overall the food was excellent but the waiting overall left us disappointed.

Overall very good experience and will return. First the food was amazing for both of our main dishes, salads and desert. The atmosphere was lively but not over the top loud. The price was what you would expect from a nicer Italian place in the Bay. The only real down check was the service. Our waitress was okay, but she was giving noticeably better service to all of the tables around us perhaps because we are younger and that means we might not spend/tip as much? I’m not sure, but it was clear we were a table that didn’t deserve her best. Secondly, a different member of the staff brought us our desert who literally dropped it on the table, said nothing and then left. A little weird.

We akways come back to Poggio. Excellent food, great drinks, wonderful service, and chill vibe. We walk down the hill and back up, with our dog (who’s welcome when we sit outside). Easy!

We dined in Thanksgiving, which meant there were lots of people waiting and the noise level was up. The Staff did a perfect job handling all of the demands and everything flowed perfectly. The wait staff was excellent and the restaurant is a beautiful place to dine. We have eaten there many times before. The food was always first rate. That was not the cast on this evening. All four of us were disappointed in the food. The ribeye was tasteless, the Manila Clams were tasteless, the Carbonara was not tasteful and the Gnudi was not well prepared either. The only great part of the meal was the salad. I’m not sure what it was called, but it resembled Caesar Salad. I realize that it was a busy time, but there’s no excuse for all of the meals to be sub standard.
