I made these reservations months in advance and they were HYPER important to me as it was not only Christmas Eve, but my 10th wedding anniversary. We arrived at 10 mins of 7 (our stated reservation time) and were not seated for 40 mins. We weren't alone as several other parties were likewise left cooling their heels at the bar which was to crowed to access a seat to get a drink and wait comfortably. i RECONNIZE OVER BOOKED WHEN I SEE IT, and that is your fault, not mine. Eventally we were seated within elbow distance of the table beside us and thankfully we jelled with our neighbors as every word of conversation was shared whether intended or not. Our waitress arrived with menus and dissappeared for 15 mins before returning to take our order. Our wine arrived 20 mins later and our salad didn't make it's debut until 40 mins after beinging given to the server. By now, if I heard our server say our food would be out any minute followed by the word "perfect" I would have gone postal! Luckily, our food did arrive in time to avoid my desire to just pay for what we had received and storm out and my wife tells me it was worth the wait. Ok! I calmed down, consumed the meal (which was esquitely prepared and why not, they had taken nearly 2 hours at this point with our order)! Obviously, my wife is a more patient person than I but when I'm paying in the vicinity of $200.00 for a dininning experience I appreciate far more than we got. We finished the evening with a very nice desert and a surprise glass of champaign for each of us. Bottom line, I will be returing to the Jefferson next year for the superior experience they provide.

✨ One of our favorite spots in Midlothian and quite possibly the best steakhouse in Richmond! 🥩🍷 The steaks are cooked to perfection, the sauces are divine, and the LOBSTER BISQUE—absolutely exquisite. Every bite is a testament to fresh, local ingredients and culinary excellence. If you’re looking for an unforgettable dining experience, this is the place. Highly recommend! 🌟

This was our first visit to this restaurant. Nothing short of fantastic! We ordered the 6 oz and the 8 oz filet mignons, and they were perfectly prepared. The accompaniments were also of generous portions and also excellent. We shared a lightly-torched creme brulee, which was excellent as well. Our server, Stacey, was well versed in the descriptions of any items we asked about. We were very satisfied with the entire evening and we will be back!

So I will start with the beginning and go in order of how things were presented. I had an 8:30 Reservation for the Buck Room on 12/20. I dropped off my guest to go get checked in so I could park and upon my entrance I saw them waiting still which was not a huge deal until talking with other groups waiting with reservations as early at 8pm. It was not 8:40 at this time. Still with no table I head up to the bar to grab drinks during the wait which was a nice area with some ambiance. After getting my drinks and heading back downstairs to wait we were asked after a while if we wanted to get the next table available which was downstairs in the pub area. At this point I obliged as we would have had to wait an additional 15 mins or more. Obviously not the experience I requested so that was a bummer. Our waiter was friendly and helpful - I was warned from reviews that the chef that it’s best to order everything at once which is fine. Still find it slightly odd to ask for the dessert. Started with the seasonal oysters and the steak tartare. The tartare was flavorful and plentiful. Definitely should have asked what the seasonal part of the oysters was because I was just expecting it to be raw on the half shell. The Filets were nicely cooked and seasoned well. They came with different options of sauces or butters to put on top which added flavor to it as well. Shared 2 desserts being the cheesecake and the chocolate tart. These were both amazing as well. Overall a great experience, but with the downer of having to wait past my reservation and instead of getting a pleasant ambiance was more like a basement level college party just for dinner. Would try again overall.

Our second visit to 1870 did not disappoint. We both started with soups, butternut squash for me and lobster bisque for my husband. Delicious. Steaks for each of us, au gratin potatoes and the carrots were shared as our sides. How can carrots be this good?! Will definitely be back.

We’ve been three times and it’s our favorite place. Go to the bar upstairs after for a cozy nightcap.

Truly a dining experience, not just a meal. We were seated upstairs in the bar area, our server was very attentive from the time we arrived, around both bar and food service. Knowledgeable about the menu, particularly around pairings (protein with sauce/compound butter, à la carte sides, and wines). Classic with a twist steakhouse menu in a beautiful historic building. Definitely on the favorites list. ❤️
