Abacá is an airy, atelier-style restaurant with a cool outdoor terrace, whipping up Filipino-Californian cuisine with flair in Fisherman's Wharf. It's the bricks-and-mortar spin off of chef Francis Ang's pop-up Pinoy Heritage. The lively menu is split up into barbecue sticks, noodles and rice, and small to big plates, but its far more nuanced than just that. Flavourful dishes pull from family recipes and are glazed with modern and heritage technique to result in a vibrancy that's hard to come by. It's grounded by local produce. Smoked Bay scallops lead in the seafood pancit, heirloom tomatoes top homemade tinapay bread, chicken skin is glazed in an adobe before hitting the grill and guinea fowl comes slathered with peanut sauce. A truncated list of creative Southeast Asian libations bring it full circle – if you're on the terrace, cool off with the Baguio breeze slushy – a dreamy mix of pandan-infused vodka, coconut and strawberry.

Fantastic experience dining at Abaca! The food and service were both phenomenal - Keoki especially was an incredible server, he did a great job explaining each dish and making sure our meal was well-paced. A must-visit in SF!

A friend recommended Abaca and it did not disappoint. Our server was very attentive, knowedgable and had a great sense of humor. Pork Lumpia, Sisig Fried Rice, and PEI mussels were all great.

Our 2nd visit and this time we brought our college aged niece to experience Abaca for her first time. The Chef was in so the server recommended the Paubaya Chef Tasting Menu with Kalderata Add On. We each ordered a cocktail from the menu to celebrate the holiday season. My husband who is very picky about restaurant service said, "the service was on point"; attentive without being obtrusive. Staff was meticulous about cleaning the table after each course. We greatly enjoyed our 4 course meal; the dishes were so delicious and well prepared! Portions were sized appropriately and we were all full after the meal. Pricing is in line with other S.F. restaurants. Ambiance was fun and energetic. The Chef came out when the dessert course was brought out and he explained the dishes and signed our menu (at my request) for a souvenir. We love the restaurant and highly recommend it regardless of whether you are of Filipino descent or not!

Food took a while to get out but was pretty good. I wish some of the food was hotter when it arrived at the table but had no problem with the taste.
