Very good classic afternoon tea in a beautiful and bright setting. The service is polite but not the warmest. The food was tasty, they have an interesting selection of teas. The room is quiet and the tables are not too close to each other which is always nice. We had a lovely time!

Went to the Goring for the Bollinger tea. Initial interactions were all very pleasant - staff very helpful and cordial. Whisked to a table with minimal fuss and drinks arrived very quickly after. The dining room was strange. Square, bland and beige - like a waiting room. Once the food and scones/patisserie were received, settled down to eat. And that’s when it started to go downhill. For over an hour, we were just left to it, no one came to see if anything was needed, or check all was ok. I did see other tables receive plenty of attention though. I had been finished for a good 10/15 minutes (and had put napkins on the table) before someone came over and offered more tea. It was a bit late at that stage though. The scones were nice, fresh and buttery but the rest of the food was mediocre at best, tasteless at worst. No one offered to box up the remaining scones or patisserie, but I saw it happen at other tables. Maybe you had to ask specifically, but I’ve never had to at other places. I wasn’t interested in the patisserie but would have taken the scones. In the end, I didn’t ask and didn’t get. Disappointing experience overall. I have no idea how this afternoon tea made it on the the CN Traveler ‘best of’ list.

Generally a good visit, but a couple of tweaks could improve things dramatically. 1. Delivering the three afternoon tea elements at the same time means that by the time you get to the patisserie section items such as the opera cake has become warm and unpleasant in the sunshine coming through the conservatory roof. 2. Serving five different pastries for a table of two is a strange mix with someone left to fight over a single item. Yes I’m aware we can request more but it’s still strange. Other afternoon teas would serve four pastries x two for a table of two covers, this makes far more sense. I have to say we wasn’t the only one to notice this and comment on it either.

Excellent afternoon tea! Beautifully-tasty sandwiches, with a second helping arriving automatically, and our guest's food preference resulting in her own special plate of sandwiches. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. It's expensive - but well and truly worth it!

It was pricey, and only one glass of champagne included.

A terrible experience. We paid £90 per person for a very mediocre afternoon tea. We booked through OpenTable and the champagne Christmas afternoon wasn't mentioned. We were forced to take the champagne afternoon tea even though we were both driving, and wouldn't drink anything when driving. When we spoke to the manager, who really wasn't interested. To be honest, there are hundreds of fabulous places for afternoon tea, this isn't one of them.

Beautiful room and nice staff. Afternoon tea very good - sandwiches, scones and cakes. Tea could have been refreshed as it got a bit stewed. Service a little slow.
