Atchafalaya is a true New Orleans neighborhood eatery where the eclectic yet elegant atmosphere is only outshone by the attentive service and delicious local fare. Nestled under the oaks on the edges of the Irish Channel, Magazine Street, and historic Garden districts, this hidden gem is one the best contemporary Creole dining experiences that one can find in the city. Neighbors, locals, and out of towners alike will become regulars after experiencing the brand of hospitality offered by New Orleans’ only five “A” restaurant. If having standards such as a gumbo du jour, blue crab raviolo, or shrimp & grits, a nightly seafood special, or a filet paired with a selection from the world class wine program you will not be disappointed. The introductions of brunch, live music, cocktails, and now an extensive happy hour continue the newest culinary chapter for a storied local haunt, embracing New Orleans’ culinary culture while placing contemporary spin on traditional New Orleans cuisine.

Excellent food. We were there for brunch and had 4 shrimp & grits, redfish, crabcake and braised beef as entrees. All ewer excellent and well presented. The ambience was very nice, but with the music playing was a little loud to be able to talk easily. That said, the music was very good and we were looking forward to listening to it. Service was a bit slow, but we weren't in a hurry and the restaurant was packed. Asid from that, our server and service was top notch. One of the best places we've eaten at in a 2 week visit to New Oleans.

I visit Atchafalaya every time I come to New Orleans for their cream cheese grits! They’re best I’ve ever had!

Both the food and service at Atchafalaya were outstanding. We booked a reservation for our family of 4 including a 2 year old and we were seated at a table in the corner of the restaurant. The staff went out of their way to accommodate us and provided our toddler with crayons and wicky sticks to keep her busy and brought her food early with the soup. Everyone in the party ordered a different meal and everyone enjoyed their meal. In particular, the soup du jour, gumbo, red fish, and bread pudding were highlights.

Really enjoyed our dinner at Atchafalaya Restaurant (as usual). Loved the decorated building itself, which is a renovated house. Inside is nicely decorated with murals and New Orleans photos. Bar area is very comfy and well stocked. We loved our appetizer of Blue Crab Raviolo which comes with Shiitake mushrooms. We also enjoyed our gumbo that featured a very dark and tasty roux, and very tender oysters. The Gulf Fish of the day was Redfish, which came with butternut squash, shrimp sauce and crawfish tails. Absolutely delicious. The Scallops were perfectly cooked, tender and delectable. The Shrimp and Grits were served with heads on as is the New Orleans tradition to keep in the flavor, and topped with andouille sausage in an appetizing creole shrimp broth. Service by Corey was outstanding, and she really made us feel like she was glad we were there.

I came in from out of town and went here for the first time on a Monday. The restaurant was 95% full and everyone seemed happy. Once I received my food I understood where the happiness came from. I chose from the special menu--fried chicken strips, and sausage with ham hock and red beans and rice. I also had the bubbles and butter drink, which was delicious, and the gumbo du jour. The fried chicken wasn't flavorful on its own, but was very good with the red beans and rice. My drink and the gumbo were also tasty. I would recommend it to others, as well as return.

We waited nearly 45 minutes for our table even though we had a reservation, and the hosts were not communicative about why there was such a delay or when we could expect to be seated. They did offer us a complimentary beverage, and tried to seat us at a high top and outside but I can’t sit at a high top and we didn’t want outside. Our waiter Preston was absolutely lovely, and the food was delicious, especially the bread pudding. We wouldn’t come back next time we’re in town, but I’m glad we went.
