Discovering the experience of dining in a place such as Cannes or Nice was never easier than now with the opening of the French Bistro and Raw Bar, Avenue. The only difference between dining at Avenue and dining along the Côte d'Azur, is that your gaze lands on waves on the other side of the Atlantic Ocean. Avenue is located along our side of the pond, on our own eastern shores in Long Branch, New Jersey. This gleaming new restaurant is designed by the internationally renowned architect David Collins, and the collaboration is nothing short of amazing.

    We were so excited to be there but No body was happy to see us, we had a 20:30 reservation and only got our table at 21:40. There was no concern or acknowledgment that they were so far behind. That said our server was fantastic and was really accommodating, and each course was delicious. Unfortunately we’re not sure if the food quality out ways the bad management.

    We waited over an hour for a table with a reservation. Waited another hour for food. It was frigid in the restaurant, to the point we wore our winter puffer coats all night. Service was subpar- never once offered beverages or refills of water. Food was delicious but the ridiculous wait, inattentive service, and horrendous cold made the meal not worth it. Prefix menu but many items were out by 8 pm. Various items on menu were not accurately described. Very bummed.

    Took an hour to seat us almost. No heat In the restaurant and was freezing. On top of it they cooked the beef Wellington well done twice. Did not do anything either for us and was happy to leave to get warm.

    Restaurant was not prepared for V-Day. Sat nearly 1hr after reservation time and significant time passed before we were greeted and able to order wine. Service was friendly and professional, but slow given lack of staff. Restaurant was freezing - several customers had coats on. Normally, I would have expected to see a manager / owner walking around and acknowledging the challenges with customers, asking for their patience and apologizing, but there was no evidence of that.

    Well, I was really looking forward to taking my girlfriend of two weeks out on Valentine’s Day. I was really trying to make a special impression and I felt Avenue was the place to go. Little did I know this was going to me one of the worst culinary experiences I’ve had. We arrived promptly at my 730 reservation on Valentine’s Day February 14, 2025. Rich told to have drinks at the bar while they prepared our table which we did. Being that we were dating for only two weeks we had a lot to talk about, so the time flew by as we were very much engaged. However, we finally realize that it was 1030 at night and we still were not seated. When I asked the manager, he seemed to flip it and arrogantly told us it wasn’t his fault they had no help. I couldn’t believe the response! Mind you, I’m involved in marketing and customer relationships, and if one of my reports told me this, as a response to a customer complaint, they would be immediately terminated. Once again, this was my fifth date and was really trying to impress as well. You could fill in the blanks. Anyhow, we were starved at that time and they sat us down and not only did they not let us choose the items that we wanted they gave you some prefix menu which was never told of to begin with. The server was very polite and wanted to make good so she got the ““ manager.” to finally relinquish and give us hamburgers at the bar. What an awful night I will never ever go to this place again. I live in at North Beach and I will tell all my friends who own properties in the surrounding areas of my experience. Please don’t waste your time. It’s way overpriced and the service was horrendous!!!!!

    Where to begin, Valentines Day, we went because my wife loves beef wellington, and it was on the menu as a special fixed price menu. We also got the wine pairing that went with it. For the first 2 courses, wine came with no food, and by the time food came, wine was gone. Oysters Rockefeller was ice cold, and soup was salty. Entree came, ordered medium rare Beef Wellington, and asked the waiter to make sure that it would be cooked properly because it was wrapped in the pastry. Was told it would be fine. Beef came out well done and asked the server to replace it. He said he could not and could only bring filet out medium rare. Filet came out ice cold and super rare. Asked for the manager, he came and offered no apology, only asked if I wanted it thrown on grill again. I asked for a new steak, number 3. Now the wine pairing was way off and useless, not to mention the parings were not very good. The manager said the kitchen was having issues and only offered excuses, no apologies. On top of all this, employees kept going out back, and it was freezing in there because they left door open.

    Most importantly, the service was excellent. The ambience, as always was superb. And the Valentine’s memue was right on target - with special kudos to the chef for his vegetarian entre!!

    We had a delicious lunch. My husband had salmon and I had the seafood pasta (wonderfully spicy). We then shared a yummy crème brûlée and cappuccinos. We have dined here many times and always enjoy the food and ambience. Sitting by the fireplace and looking out at the ocean is always a treat! We will be back soon.
