Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Aves NYC is a vibrant addition to the Upper West Side, offering a "beautiful design" and a mix of traditional and "modern options" in upscale Chinese cuisine. Standout dishes include the Peking Duck, and service is "excellent." While some find it pricey, the atmosphere and creative menu make it "a great neighborhood asset."

We went for dim sum, which Aves advertised. Aves is trying to be an upscale Chinese restaurant, but misses the mark. Very dead flowers on the table, a banquet where the seat is too low for the table (I had to sit on a pillow), overly attentive service in an empty room, and high prices that feel silly. Menu says 3 dumplings for $16. That’s more than $5 each. Waiter asked if we would like “3 or 4.” I did not tell him the standard in NY is 6 in an order. The dumplings stuck so badly to the paper, the skin tore, ruining the soup dumplings and ripping up the crystal skin of the shrimp dumplings. Waiter for unknown reason brought 2 orders of pork buns when we ordered 1. The amount of meat was completely uneven from one bun to the next. While the food was good, there is no reason to go back here and pay considerably more for what you can get elsewhere (LaSalle Dumpling Room, Atlas) for less money, superior quality and more food. Disappointing, too, was that it’s not a real dim sum experience. No carts, not much choice of dim sum items. Lastly, why say 3 dumplings on the menu and then have the waiter ask if you want 3 or 4 in your order? Makes no sense.

Lovely ambience and excellent food at reasonable prices. We were seated upstairs. Our server was incredibly kind and attentive, but somewhat inexperienced and clunky.

Hidden gem. This was the best surprise of this trip to NYC. Aves had been highly recommended by a friend and it exceeded expectations. The food, the ambience and the service were all exceptional. The Peking duck, ordered at the time the reservation was made, was excellent as were all of the other dishes.

Not your stereotypical Chinese restaurant. Small menu but creative and delicious food. Pricy. More of a special occasion place than for "let's order in Chinese." A couple of friends say the cocktails are excellent.

Overrated in terms of menu and tastiness of food. We were underwhelmed with the food and loved the interior design.

The restaurant that was there before Aves was a local favorite and we were curious about what they did with the space. The place looks drastically different, but it has kept the same cozy vibe. The menu is interesting and has some of my favorite Asian foods, which pretty much guarantees we'll be back. The food is delicious and the portions are large. Also props to the bartender, he makes excellent cocktails!
