Nestled in the heart of historic Grand Avenue, Bacanora defies tradition with its ambiance, intimacy, and flavors. Born from the visionary mind of James Beard award-winning Rene Andrade, Bacanora isn’t just a restaurant; but rather an experience. Rene and his team have shaped Bacanora into a haven for those seeking a taste of home and a warm hug with hospitality. Sticking to the roots of Sonoran cuisine, everything is carefully crafted over open flame y puro amor at Bacanora. If he’s up, then Phoenix is up!

RESERVATIONS FOR MARCH WILL BECOME AVAILABLE TO BOOK ON FEBRUARY 1ST AT 9:00AM!
You may still experience a wait time upon arrival due to reservations being booked back-to-back at all tables. Please practice patience and understanding if this occurs because we are working as hard as possible to get everyone sat on time and to have a great experience.

Parking can be found in the parking lot across McKinley from the restaurant, it is reserved for guests of Bragg’s and neighbors.

    James Beard Award

    2024

From the OpenTable editors: Bacanora fired up the grill in downtown Phoenix in 2021, quickly making a nationwide splash with praise pouring in from The New York Times, Esquire, and local outlets—leading to a James Beard Award for Best Chef: Southwest in 2024 for Rene Andrade. It's all thanks to Andrade's flavorful Sonoran cuisine—think tomahawk steaks and pineapples dangling over an open flame—agave cocktails, and natural wine in the casual, intimate space.

This is a tiny locale with about 27 seats total. Parking is spotty, being in an area that is seemingly being revitalized, but still not the nicest. We heard about this restaurant through friends and family, praising its food. This place is highly sought out, so it's hard to find reservations, even a month out. The only spot we could find, even after months trying, was for brunch. The food was ok, although overly spicy, not living up to the hype. Prices were what one would expect. The cost for 2 for brunch was around $70. The exception is if you order the $300 bone-in ribeye dish. We are not impressed. Maybe we'd try for dinner in the future if we ever find a spot. They would include a 30% gratuity for parties > 6.

Great food. Love how small it is. Not a-lot of options on the entrees but they nailed the chicken. Enough to feed 3 people. Most definitely coming back.

Had an amazing time celebrating my birthday at Bacanora. Food was outstanding and service was amazing. We spent the whole drive home talking about how delicious everything was. Cannot wait to go back.

There is hype about this place which I feel is all about it being small and therefore difficult to get a reservation. Nothing special about the food except the outrageous price. $76 for half a chicken entree? $90 for a red snapper entree. Loud, screaming, echoing laughter at 5:15pm? Not for us.

Food was very good however it is not worth the struggle trying to get a reservation. And our reservation was for 8:15 and their website indicates they follow a 2 hour table time. They stop serving at 10:00 and at 9:45, while we are still eating and still a half hour away from our 2 hour limit, we were told we needed to have our food boxed up. I was just a little stunned and asked for at least 5 more minutes so we could continue to eat. It was not like they were going to sit anyone at our table so definitely no need to hurry us along. I felt unappreciated.

After trying to get in here for a while, it was definitely worth the wait. The food was fantastic, some of the best Mexican food I’ve had. We tried the bone marrow, scallop ceviche, the bbq ribs, and the chicken platter. They all had interesting twists, bold cilantro and lime flavors, and smoky flavor from their wood fired grilled integrated. Very generous portions. The cocktails were unique and delicious. Finally, as someone who is the biggest flan fan, their hot chocolate flan was awesome. Wait staff were very attentive and friendly.

This was our 2nd time dining here. Amazing everything, once again. We got the Elote, ceviche, and snapper. Everything was tender, flavorful, and cooked to perfection. Tried 4 different cocktails, all very unique, different and delicious. This place deserves 100% of the hype it receives.
