   There is an interesting variety of foods on the menu, which should appeal to most people. One of us had a strip steak Gaucho Cut and the other had the Moroccan chicken skewers , and both of us were pleased with our meals. For dessert, the homemade S'More was delicious. and the Toscanini's mixed berry sorbet was refreshing, with an intense fresh fruit flavor. Our server was attentive and personable. Back Deck is convenient to the Opera House and we will consider returning there to dine the next time we attend the Boston Ballet.

   Got the eggs Benedict with roasted veggie. Was told it was with zucchini and red onion… it wasn’t. It was with carrot and red pepper. That was fine since I like most veggies but eggs were cold. Bloody Mary was ok. I like spicy but this was an odd spice I needed to add salt and pepper. Espresso martini was delicious.

   Took 45 mins to get our food, an omelette and a burger. Neither were very good. The server did apologize and say there was a mistake with the order and that’s the reason for the wait. Long wait for foot that was not good.

   A lovely dinner before the ballet. Nicely paced, never rushed or hectic. The Vermont red ale was a great appetizer and the flourless brownie sundae a delight

   In the past few years kids meals have gone up more than 50% with no increase in portion size. Sadly, we used to find this restaurant’s menu family friendly and no longer do.

   Back Deck is a relatively simple menu revolving around the concept of grilling in the backyard. There are a few vegan options. Varied meats - steak, pork, chicken, salmon shrimp. Adding meat or fish to any salad easy. pricing is moderate for Boston. salads average around $20. I ran in for a quick luncheon with a colleague, and for late lunch, it was easy to have a private conversation. However, it is a big open dining room with no dividers and no carpeting, and having eaten here before, the noise level can be lively with a crowd. I ordered the Thai salad with chicken. was very good.

   The food is delicious ! Everything is fresh and prepared with care. We found BackDeck by chance but have returned twice since. Also, our server, Ricardo, made the experience that much better with his happy personality, not to mention the excellent service.

    Per someone with a gluten allergy, I was excited that menu items were marked with GF, as many places near the opera house are not very GF friendly. However… when I asked why the grilled pineapple sundae was not marked GF they said it was cross contamination of the grill with the pineapple, so I asked why was the Aloha burger I ordered marked GF if that was the case? Also, be mindful you need a code to use the bathroom!

    Thank you for taking the time to share feedback about your visit with us. Back Deck is a Gluten Free friendly restaurant. I can assure you that the Aloha Burger and grilled pineapple sundae are both available gluten free. I have brought your concerns to both our Chef and Sous Chef's attention. They are both aware and do make sure that the proper procedures are followed. The grilled pineapple as well as the onions for the Aloha burger are prepared on a clean grill. We have a dedicated gluten free grill. My only explanation is that there was miscommunication. It is possible someone in the kitchen was erring on the cautious side in regards to the pineapple. I do sincerely apologize that we caused you to feel uncomfortable during your time with us.
