This is Greece.

Bar Vlaha tells the story of the Vlach people, the founders of hospitality and Greek cooking. A nomadic group of shepherds who created and nurtured the roots of Hellenic cooking as we know it. Straying from the tried-and-true island cuisine, we're rediscovering Greek fare sourced from rural mountains, lakes and villages of Central and Northern Greece.

Bar Vlaha captures the true soul of Greek cooking with rustic and nomadic traditions using charcoal and open fire gastra techniques. Locally sourced, regional and seasonal ingredients are combined with the warmth of old-world hospitality to bring the roots of Greek culture to Brookline.

    I did not think the food was very good. Everything had sugar and the bread should be warm. The chicken was tasteless. I had heard rave reviews and it was just not very good. I loved, loved the traditional embroidery, the decor and music and service was top of the park!

    The first time I went to Bar Vlaha I was blown away -- by the service, ambience and the food. This time, the service was still stellar. They really take care of you here and seem to care. And the ambience is still charming. But the food -- while good -- was not amazing. The green salad was tasty and bright, but nothing to write home about. The fried mushrooms were fine, but missing a layer of depth of flavor. The dolmas -- meh. I did think the lamchops were very good and the side of greens. The best part? Our cocktails and the sorbet. Overall, I was disappointed and I very much didn't want to be because I absolutely love the vibe of this restaurant!

    The dishes were very tasty and full. Authentic, rich, delicious. Excellent Greek wine selection. Ambiance was a bit too modern for ethnic Greek name. Some people like that. Service was super. Will definitely go back.

    AMAZING! Everything was so good and the service was impeccable. We especially loved the fried mushrooms and the grilled vegetables. Quite frankly, all the food was very good! A great option for delicious family style dining.

    Absolutely incredible experience, our waiter was very helpful. My sister has a gluten allergy and he really made her feel safe and comfortable. One of my favorite places. Looking forward to being served by him again.
