We went for afternoon tea which was nice but we waited half an hour for our table despite having a reservation. The host wasn’t very apologetic about it. I feel like they should have at least comped a drink or something especially given how expensive it is. The food itself was good and one of the better afternoon teas I’ve been to in Boston but not sure I’d go back given our experience.

I’ve been to the restaurant for lunch before but booked this for a birthday celebration noted on my reservation. Arrived and asked if we could sit away from the door and was told the table we wanted, that was empty and one table over, was reserved for a birthday celebration. After having them look at our reservation and lots of looks from person to person they moved us to the table we requested. Best we could tell, our waiter was serving everyone there. He was a great guy but overloaded. The food was meh. The pea soup had way too much mint in it. The strip steak was tough and we should have been given steak knives rather than butter knives to eat. Dessert was fine but no one bothered to ask if we wanted coffee. If I return it won’t be for dinner.

I have been to the Beacon Hill Bookstore and cafe a number of times. It’s my go to place when bringing family or friends for breakfast or lunch when I’m planning a trip into “town.” It has everything: great ambience, food, decor, service, and BOOKS. The book selections are never ending. AND, I get great design ideas from their decor- Thank you for bringing an amazing business to Charles St.

Service was fine. We were told to put in the dessert apple cobblers order in early so it would be ready by dessert time (bc it takes 30-minutes to make). After finishing our meal however, the dessert didn’t come and when we asked for it, they told us it would be another 15 minutes. I think our server either forgot or they just didn’t get to it in time. So we decided to leave. The menu is strict and they don’t accommodate.

I had always wanted to come to the cafe, so decided to surprise my son and bring him to dinner (from CT). The ambiance was great but the dinner, which was the price fixed, was terrible. Dessert was good but the french onion soup and chili chicken pot pie and strip steak were awful. The french onion soup and pot pie were scalding hot and took 10-15 minutes to cool and the steak was so tough. I was completely disappointed with the quality of this food and Im sick I paid $60 x 2. The server was nice.

Unfortunately chicken was severely undercooked, we sent it back to be cooked more and took almost 30 minutes to get the meal back meanwhile no one kept us updated, finally a different server brought us the check while we were still waiting on the chicken

We had a lovely dining experience at Beacon Hill books and Café. the food was inventive and delicious, and a very good value with a prie fixe menu. The atmosphere was cozy and inviting, being tucked into a corner of a lovely and quaint bookstore. Definitely a great date night!
