Beauty & Essex has an innovative design that starts in the restaurant’s entrance, a well-curated modern-day pawn shop replete with a saxophone, boom­box, quirky artifacts, vintage treasures, and an eclectic array of “one-off” pieces of jewelry. Continuing past the pawnshop, guests encounter a grand, circular staircase wrapped around a two-story custom chandelier, but only the adventurous will discover all that Beauty & Essex has to offer. With four distinct dining rooms (one private), two bars, a lounge, and a women’s bathroom complete with a salon including a luxurious sofa, and antique perfume bottles. The cuisine, much like the design, is intended to set a new course. Chef Chris Santos was one of the pioneers of the small, share plate dining trend that has swept the nation, and with the Beauty & Essex menu, he once again has created waves on the food scene.

    We thoroughly enjoyed the ambiance and food at beauty and Essex - the waiter was attentive and it was my bday and they gave me a delicious chocolate cupcake with lemon frosting Would come back in a heartbeat

    Our 1st time here and it was an outstanding experience from start to finish. Every course , every bite was an "OMG" , "WOW" , "THIS IS SO GOOD" moment. The fact that you had to go through a jewelry store front to get to the restaurant which is up a winding staircase with a fabulous chandelier hanging in the center was top notch. The esthetics was very tastefully done. As we were leaving we were told to come back for their brunch that following day & we did just that and were not disappointed. 10/10.

    4th time NYC B&E - we loved it- celebrated our daughter’s Barnard Graduation- she is GF and they can make several Dishes to meet her needs- the salmon was sooo tasty The scallops as well- the eggplant dish - ( i dont care for eggplant ) the dish was delicious - hint don’t wait on it - it is a dish best eaten hot- BBQ fries were OK Desserts were off the chain - a must is the black forrest cake They do it right from the service to the food - when in NY it is a must for us

    We had a fantastic time and made some new friends! Tables are close so expect to meet your neighbors if you’re a smaller party. Food was amazing as well! The pawn shop facade is a working shop too, I bought some beautiful earrings!! So much fun!

    Love the options on the small plates, the onion rings and Shashito pepper (WOW was that a big bowl of peppers) were outstanding, as was the ravioli. Eddy was outstanding with the service, everything was top notch. They made us feel special on our anniversary dinner celebration!
