About this restaurant

  • Charming
  • Great for fine wines
  • Good for special occasions
The ‘little sister’ to Michelin-starred restaurant Wild Honey St James on Pall Mall, Bistrot is inspired by the ‘bistonomy’ movement in Europe over the last decade. Chef Anthony Demetre has devised a seasonally changing, accessible menu and wine/drinks list with a strong French emphasis.

Visit for a drop-in glass of wine or cocktail with charcuterie and snacks after work, an informal business lunch, ideal pre/post-theatre dining, or a convivial evening with friends. Whether at the counter, ideal for solo diners, or on one of the richly coloured red leather banquettes around the space, the mood is all about the quality of the welcoming hospitality and great food and drink.

The Bistrot at Wild Honey is a delightful offshoot of the main restaurant, based in the Sofitel St James Hotel, just off Pall Mall. Amazing French focused food, and a buzzy atmosphere, the restaurant was busy when I visited, due to a private function also going on. A complimentary glass of wine was a nice gesture from the maitre d’ in recognition of how long I had waited to get served. A great little restaurant - I shall definitely be back!

As we were on our way to the theatre, we had the prix fixe menu. Both courses were good but the starter salad was particularly tasty. The staff were attentive and efficient and as a bonus we had an interesting conversation with the Head/owner.

The food and service were first class. Favourites included the cod’s roe starter, the Merguez sausages, Bavette and Tarte Tartin. We chose wine from the back of the menu - which were good and well-priced: the Albarino was delicious and food friendly. The service was excellent. Initially, there were people at the bar, but they left and very few other tables were occupied - a pity as everything is to be commended.

We had the pre theatre deal. The only downside was that there was too much food! I had the soup which was simple but delicious and then we both had the cottage pie - rather than mince it had slow cooked chunks of beef: almost too much to eat, but superb

Business meeting. The Brasserie: The food & wine was excellent along with the ambiance. The welcome was warm when shown to our table. However, the service on this occasion was not as expected, we waited for the wine to be served and arrived after the starter had appeared on our table, and throughout the meal, it wasn't easy to attract the attention of the waiting team, the requested bill took even longer to arrive after a couple of attempts.

Pros: Great set-up/ vibe Delicious food / drinks Polite / professional wait staff Cons: Unfortunately sat near the closets so had a lot of interruptions / service staff putting coats away. Would suggest asking to be sat away. Was very slow to get server attention but might have been because it was a Tuesday. Cocktails didn’t feel like great value for money - no fancy garnish / glass to make it feel worth the £20

Superb Loure Valley rabbit stew. My partner, for an adventure, ordered the skate; while she said it tasted good, she had trouble with the texture (not your average fish) and didn’t finish. She was quick to point out that there wasn’t anything wrong with the meal, but just a lack of familiarity with an item you can’t find everywhere. Service was attentive all around. My scores reflect our combined experience although I can only speak for the excellent meal I had.

A superb bistrot in the Sofitel St James’s Hotel, located next door to its Michelin-starred sibling restaurant. Amazing food, outstanding wine and excellent service. Vicky was just superb and looked after her guests incredibly well. Open seven days a week, this is a destination restaurant that is well worth a visit.
