   Amazing clam chowder!! Also, the lobster salad sandwich (pretty much a lobster roll on a croissant) was such a good value and flavor!! Highly recommend. We were seated in the annex which didn’t give it a tavern vibe but still amazing!! Service was slow to start, then on par.

   Really loud, but not surprising given the space. Our server was fine, but the expediter literally dropped the food at the other side of the table and left immediately. Forgot the side dish. Rather than any apology we were told he was new. The food was fine. An okay experience but would not likely return.

    I have made The Black Pearl a dining destination on my annual visit to Newport for the last five years and have never been disappointed until tonight. I made a reservation for the dining room three weeks in advance for a special occasion dinner. I arrived early and was told that there wasn't a table available, but I could see the hostess at the outdoor dining area for immediate seating. Seating wasn't immediate and the service was mediocre and inattentive. Thankfully, the food did not disappoint. It was the only thing that saved the dining experience.

    Sorry to hear about that Jeffrey. We take reservations daily, and while we do not hold a table empty waiting for any reservation to show up we move that reservation to the top of the wait list so that the next available table would be yours. This allows our guests with reservations to be either early or late, as was your case. All of this should have been explained to you, and I will talk to our team from last night to help with their communication about this.
