The Brigantine is more than just home to some of San Diego’s finest seafood. It’s a place where locals and visitors alike come to share a lively atmosphere and authentic sense of community. The Morton family opened the first Brigantine on Shelter Island in 1969, with a vision that embraced the beach town lifestyle, a dedication to flavorful food, and a passion for friendly service.

Today, we’re known far and wide for our San Diego-style surf and turf. From our award-winning fish tacos and freshly shucked oysters, to classic filet mignon or our perpetually best-selling marinated grilled swordfish. Always prepared to exceed expectations, and served with a smile. You can stop in at any neighborhood Brigantine and get a taste of the local flavor, from regionally inspired specials, to custom cocktails and home town craft beers. At the Brigantine we make first timers feel like regulars, and consider regulars part of the family. So come by often, and share our taste for life.

We arrived on time for our prepaid event reservation to be seated in the worst possible spot where there was no heater. After 30 minutes we were finally moved. and after approximately 40 minutes, we were finally served water. And then a few minutes later we finally received cocktails, so it was a really long time we paid in advance for special seating for the parade of lights so after waiting 45 minutes for our cocktails, we were finally asked if we wanted appetizers, which took about another 30 minutes. Needless to say it was a very long evening. The servers were not friendly and seemed to be put out that they had to be there. There were empty tables, so it was not that busy even though it was special event. I don’t know why I keep going back to this very expensive restaurant where people are wearing jeans and T-shirts and flip-flops. I’ll be moving onto another high priced restaurant like Mr. A’s for my next Christmas event.

Our party of 4 turned into a party of 6 when we ran into 2 of our friends who were at the bar! The hostess was kind to rearrange our reservation to add our friends to join us for dinner. I was pleased that Brigantine was able to accommodate us! Max was our waiter & provided excellent service during dinner & great recommendations. He suggested the seafood tower for one of our appetizers which was delicious but I gave 4 stars as crab claws were slightly frozen & lacked the sweetness. I ordered the surf & turf which was outstanding & the steak & lobster were delicious! Excellent dinner, will def be back.

Everything was excellent, from sitting on the patio looking out over the water, great service and wonderful food. Some might not like the noise from the nearby airport when larger planes take off, but just a few seconds and not all the time.

Overall it was a good dinner, but the service needs to improve, we waited 20 minutes for a water refill and had to flag down a waiter to ask and it was not a busy night. Staff was not paying too much attention to the guest and was spending time amongst themselves socializing. The food lacked zip or uniqueness, it was just regular and normal. My wife said my steak at home tastes better!

I have been to a different location, well established and was hoping for similar. 3 days before I made the reservation asking for a booth bc I have a date. We were offerred a non booth, but it wasn’t set up, and benches w were in disarray. The chowder could have filled the bowl better and should have had some more clams. There may have been two. One entree was great, scallops, but the macadamia crusted Mahi was a disappointment. Almost non identifiable nuts and a breaded coating was too dominant, cooked in poor oil. I won’t return again.
