   I don’t believe I have ever left a negative review of a restaurant. However, the ratings on this restaurant are really misleading. Our entrees appeared to me to be a microwave TV dinner dumped on a plate after a more than 30 minute wait. The service was very poor as well. I usually give a business a fair amount of grace, particularly during the holidays, however, the issues I observed seemed to be possible only in a restaurant with long-entrenched disregard for quality of food or service. Please go elsewhere.

   While the location and service are very good the restaurant was out of many items including shrimp cocktail, Mahi-Mahi, Ono and Ahi to name a few. The food that did arrive was just OK. The deck was open but the rest of the restaurant including the pizza parlor downstairs were closed and appeared damaged by water or something.

   We had a terrible experience. Either they have no system in place to handle food allergies or the waitstaff hasn’t been trained on the system. Our waitress was clueless, unprofessional and disinterested in doing anything but the bare minimum. Find a different place to eat.

   The staff was welcoming. Our server was very attentive. I was just disappointed in the Ono fish as it was not juicy or tender as expected. My husband enjoyed chicken marsala very much though.

   The service and wait staff was friendly. But be careful when they offer suggestions. We were told dessert options, and a piece of cake with a side of ice cream. When the bill came we found we were charged for a dessert of ice cream and also a piece of cake, not cool given it was $15. for each. Food was okay but there are other Italian restaurants in the area with better food for a fraction of the cost. Having said this, the view is very pretty so if you're looking for the beach view no matter what, then this is the place for you.

   The views and service were amazing. I would stick to the Italian food, obviously at an Italian restaurant. The only bad item was the Ribeye Steak, do not order steak. I ordered it medium rare and it came medium well. I did not think it was a ribeye cut either. The appetizers, drinks and other food was delicious!

    If you have been to Lihue, HI, you should know the place. If you haven't, you should go. Right next door to Dukes (another long-time staple), Portofino is a lovely, fine dining experience on the water. The food is excellent, and the service is A+. This is a no-brainer experience if you want something different than fish tacos and Hula pie! Shout out to Francesco, our server, who was awesome.
