   We were celebrating my wife's birthday and the departure of our grandson to New Zealand where he's hoping to stay for a long period. So mixed feelings that day.

   We booked for a family brunch and were impressed with the menu range though disappointed pancakes were off the menu. Good welcome, service was good. No particular provision for children. Ours are well behaved but this would have been an extra distraction before the food arrived. Waiting staff were able to tailor the menu to our requests.

   Cafe Rouge Esher is our "go to" restaurant to meet up with friends for lunch. The service is friendly and excellent and the food is always good. The French onion soup is delicious as are many of the French dishes.

   Chose Cafe Rouge to use my Tesco vouchers. It was a pleasant experience with friendly service. The pate was delicious. Disappointed that the tagine I chose was served in a bowl, not a tagine, but it was quite nice. Will definitely return, but only because of being able to use the Tesco vouchers.

   Busy, even on a Tuesday night. Friendly staff, but very busy, so had to catch their attention a couple of times. Good value and reliable.

   Usually come here for lunch and was not as impressed by dinner. They lost our booking via OpenTable and missed out on two requests in our order.

   Quality of food very mediocre. Hake, deep fried to a frazzle making it very dry and virtually inedible and a fish cake with no tartare sauce, as printed on the menu. This was not mentioned before the meal arrived. Substitute offered was mint sauce which with fish was not acceptable. Even with the voucher discount, we felt this meal was very poor value for money.

   It's been many years since I have been here. Living in Teddington I am spoilt for choice. However I had a fancy for the Cafes Beef bourguinon. It was as good as ever. Their Tarte aux Pomme was off that night and would have made the meal perfect. Good to know that old favourites maintain their standards and provide comfort food which you can count on.

    We came for an impromptu family lunch, knowing that lunch for six can be tricky, with a vegetarian and fussy teenagers on board, but the food was excellent. We had a warm welcome, attentive and speedy service, and delicious food. The main course mushroom crepe was an excellent and nicely different choice to avoid meat, and the burger, half chicken and supreme were excellent. The chef even rose to my challenge to present minute steak rare. We shared a salted caramel something afterwards and it was lovely. We will definitely come back.
