About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Neighborhood gem
Can Can is a French brasserie and bakery in Cary Court Shopping Center. With seating for over 140 in the main dining room, an Art Nouveau inspired private dining room that seats up to 60 guests or over 100 for cocktails, and a full-service bakery and pastry kitchen supplying all of its breads, pastries, and desserts, the restaurant’s versatility should provide the area an array of options and events.

Can Can provides nonstop service morning, noon, and night and looks to give the local neighborhood, businesses, and Richmond visitors, a home away from home, an office away from the office, a place of refuge, or a stage for celebrating with friends.

A Parisian-style steak frites eatery in a classic bistro setting with dark woods, tiles & mirrors.

Very nice bistro in Carytown. The menu offers a variety of French salads, sandwiches, and entrees. We enjoyed the appetizer Brussels sprouts, and the Bahn Oui and Croque Madam sandwiches. Ingredients were fresh and very tasty. The portions are quite large - we took leftovers home. Our waiter Roman was very attentive and efficient. Would definitely go back again when in Richmond.

From the terrific brussel sprout appetizer to the beef bourguignon entrees ( perfection!) everything about the meal was wonderful. The salads came out underdressed but this was remedied in short order with some additional vinaigrette. Even the weather cooperated. We were outside and it was comfortable. Our waitperson was splendid and gave us just enough attention and also great suggestions. The desserts we shared were thoroughly enjoyed by all four of our party.

We had great experience at Can Can. Last time we visited this place was long time ago and we had no expectations. How surprised we were! Food tasted fantastic! We enjoyed brunch menu. Fried ousters were delicious: crispy and light with very balanced sauce. Avocado toast was interesting dish, not something i have eaten before. It was not the best in my opinion, but still was great meal. I picked spring greens as a side choice and it was super fresh and good addition. Steak sandwich was ultimate winner of our order: smoky, juicy tender with the side of thin shoestring fries. The size of that dish was good enough to take half home for another meal. Next time I would order one to split between two people. Eggs in Purgatory looked great, although I did not tasted it. French toast was ok, could be without it: slices were little too thin for French toast, and on little too sweet side. My daughter barely touched it, she enjoyed the half of steak sandwich meal with fries. Unfortunately, we did not have a chance to taste beignets: restaurant run out of them. Perhaps next time! When we arrived the dinning room was a little too loud, however, it got better as people were finishing their meals. Ambiance of the restaurant is rustic, old French house, certainly for those who can appreciate the vibe. Overall, we had fantastic Mother’s Day celebration at Can Can. We are looking forward for coming another time little earlier in the brunch hours to get beignets.

The restaurant itself has so much potential, but the food was just a miss. A lot of what we ordered for brunch on Mother’s Day was cold and had to be sent back. Even being remade, the toast was cold and hard. In addition to Mother’s Day, we were also celebrating our 29th wedding anniversary and listed that when we made our reservation, but there was no mention of that from the hostess or our waitress. It was a disappointing experience.

My friend and I drove down from Alexandria, VA and this was a first dining experience at Can Can for my friend and I; however, the couple we were with, who live in Richmond, have dined here frequently. The food was good and delivered hot; the warm bread basket was excellent; the environment was festive as it was Mother's Day; the restaurant and staff were clean and tidy. We could hold a conversation with the need to shout across the table. We were able to have separate checks. The Richmond couple returned their Bloody Marys and switched to wine because the Bloody Marys are hot and spicy and there was no alternative mix available. My friend ordered pancakes and when they arrived there was no syrup. She asked twice for syrup and a portion was eventually delivered to the table. When she received her bill she noted that she was charged 50 cents for the syrup. As we were seated where we could see other diners' food being delivered we noted that other servings of pancakes were being delivered not only with syrup but with butter and powdered sugar on them. She mentioned this to the waiter but it appear that he couldn't rectify the kitchen's mistake and he did offer to ask a manager to come over. She declined. This is such a "first world problem" but it seems that it would have been feasible for the server to talk to the manager and rectify the mistake.

Two doting grandparents enjoyed lunch with our precious teenage granddaughters on a lovely Friday. The girls polished off their Bon sandwiches while their grandparents enjoyed orders of Bouillabaisse. For starters we split a delicious order of baked brie. The service was superb in the midst of a full house of diners. We shall come again!

Good food, not great. Monte Carlo was disappointing. Service was slow and inattentive, probably because tip was automatic. Doubt I’ll return.

It was prom night, so quite a bit noisier than expected. The food was delicious and the service was top notch. Highly recommended.
