Carmella’s Plates & Pints is the first restaurant for co-owners, Carmella Salem and Michael Alberter. Our kitchen creates upscale comfort cuisine.
Our dining room has a warm and cozy feel due to the wood- beamed cathedral ceiling, open fireplace, taxidermy and stained glass windows that adorn the dining room. Our guests feel as though they are tucked away at some destination lodge that exists in the heart of the Historic Southside. Local meats are delivered daily with Wild Game plates on the menu such as our staple plates like the Bison Burger and Smoked Wild Boar Meatballs. We do have an intimate 60 seat dining room and ask that guests please call us for parties of 6 or more to make a reservation. Our expansive Whiskey Bar boasts over 500 Selections. Enjoy 11 Wines on Tap / 27 Craft beers on Tap / 11 Cocktails on Tap.

We went for Restaurant Week and it was our first time there. I don’t think the meal was worth what we paid. The first course I had was just a big steamed cauliflower bulb the size of my fist resting on some kind of sauce. I really didn’t care for the sauce at all. I didn’t finish it. My wife tasted it and didn’t care for it either. My main course was the pork schnitzel with spaetzle. The spaetzle was loaded with onions and kind of mushy and watery. I don’t like onions and it wasn’t listed as an ingredient. The pork schnitzel was kind of tough and seemed pre-made. The little brownies we had for desert, and I mean little looked premade and something they just got out of a box. Each were about the size of an assorted chocolate. They were super dense and super dry. The biscuit that came with my wife’s clam chowder was super dry as well. Actually seemed a bit stale. I can’t speak to their regular menu. The service was good and the ambience was great. I just think they could’ve done better with the menu. They did pour a good Guinness though.

If you are looking for a true hug this is your spot. What a surprise as you walk into the gorgeous bar and then to the back of the restaurant where you are transported to a lodge, cabin, a time travel where pubs began? The immense drink menu had us gobsmacked at the banana old fashioned and festive cocktails, but vinos on tap? Pierogis were legit homemade and the bison meatloaf was a chef kiss and the hug you need on a cold night. Dessert was a true treat and the French press was smooth and delicious.

Good food and great service, would recommend. We were seated in the backroom which got a bit loud at times, but the decor was entertaining. Appreciated the reasonable pricing and range of options in terms of main entrees, etc.

Ordered a variety of entree items, Wagyu pasta, butternut squash risotto with grilled chicken on top, and short ribs with grilled vegetables. All were very good, short ribs being our favorite. Server super friendly and helpful. Would recommend.
