We looked forward to having Thai food on our visit to La Jolla, at a restaurant that used to be one of our favorites in the old days: Royal Thai, now Chedi Bistro. The restaurant could be attractive, but it is not kept up well and looks a bit shabby and lackluster. From beginning to end, it was a disaster. We had a reservation, but when we arrived they said there was no table, even though clearly there were some open. We didn't get any attention for the first ten minutes, until my husband asked the man at the desk for some water. We did not seem to have a designated server. One young woman came once and apologized for the wait. Except for that high point, we had to ask for everything, and no one checked with us to see how we were doing. Long after we were finished, we had to ask for the check. The food was OK, nothing memorable, but pleasant. The service was non-existent, and the servers were clueless. The kitchen seemed slow and disorganized, and not all the food came at the same time. They don't seem to care about their guests' welfare at all. This is a shame and unfortunately inspired me to write this review to protect others from a disappointing experience.

The Thai food scene in San Diego isn't too great, and this place was average compared to the rest. The menu was quite Americanized, which was a down for me since I wished that everything had more heat. The steamed mussels for appetizer were nothing special - just seems like they steamed some previously frozen mussels. The entree was good - I got green curry and it came with rice. The dessert wasn't too great. The friend bananas are not fried in a batter, but wrapped in wonton wrappers, They were lukewarm (not hot) and chewy (not crispy), so they seemed like they were sitting under the hot lamp for an hour before we were served. At the end of the night, the server casually dropped off the check for us without a single "thank you" or even a smile, which was disappointing. It is on the more pricey side for Thai food that I could get elsewhere, so I'm just going to save money next time and go to the hole-in-the-wall, more authentic Thai restaurants that I am used to.

Was lucky to pick this place for lunch while visiting La Jolla. Some of the best Thai food I've had. Flavorful, appropriately spicy...so tired of toned-down bland Thai...great value. I'd highly recommend this place.

The ambiance is nice, the service friendly but disorganized. We waited too long for ordering and food and beverages. Some of the dishes were tasty while others left much to be desired. Too expensive for Thai food!

We (a family of three) are Thai food fans and have visited Thai restaurants all over the world. This allows me to say that this is probably the worse Thai food that we have ever tried. The soup that was supposed to be medium-hot was almost sweet; the pad thai was made with a different kind of pasta and a sweet sauce; the lamb had too much pepper. Desserts were not bad, though. I had stiky rice and my daughter had taro. I am sorry to give this negative review but I think it could help the chef to improve its cooking.

Went on a Sunday evening and it wasn't too busy. Service was good but I was expecting better food given the location and ambience. Tom Kha Gai was way too sweet and bland (not enough lemongrass and fish sauce). Green papaya salad hit the right flavor notes. Charred squid wasn't charred and dish was way too bland (it was supposed to be the spiciest choice on the menu).

All of the dishes, and we have four, were lacking in flavor and texture. They were not able to even give us adequate spicy flavors. There was nothing distinctive. I would say it is barely mediocre. Very pleasant wait staff but it was almost as though they knew the food was not so good.

My wife and I shared the Lovers appetizer which was great. I really liked the shrimp dumpling that was part of it. Their Pang Curry is excellent and their Drunken noodles were very tasty. We will return.

Portions were very generous! We had spring rolls for appetizers that are twice the size of other restaurants. I did my best to not inhale them before my entree came. We also had the veggie dumplings which I wasn't crazy about but my co-workers seemed to really enjoy them. I had the turmeric curry (without shrimp); though the broth and vegetables were delicious, I could have done without the noodles which were a little overcooked. I would have rather had the entree with rice instead, but overall a great dish. I definitely will make sure to stop by again next time I'm in the La Jolla area.

We were a visiting party of 5 (including 2 vegetarians) and everyone was pleased with their dishes. I especially liked the Tom Kha Gai (coconut chicken soup with lime and galanga root) which I consider the "litmus test" dish to judge a Thai restaurant). The spices were nicely balanced, the chicken was all breast meat, the lemon grass, galanga root and kefir lime leaves were in good proportion. I prefer straw mushrooms, however. The chef is liberal with the "heat" index, so order conservatively unless you like really spicy food. We also enjoyed the Pad Thai and musmun curry. The decor is pleasant, but not intimate. Thai food is inexpensive in some locales. Not so much in La Jolla. I'd go there again, given the chance.
