The last of its kind near 42nd Street, Chez Josephine is a neighborhood gem founded in 1986 by Jean-Claude Baker as a tribute to legendary Josephine Baker. This Parisian bistro offers live piano music and a tantalizing menu in an intimate setting of red velvet walls, a cavalcade of chandeliers and a blue-tin ceiling. Guests receive a warm welcoming and are treated as family whether coming before a show, after the show, for a leisurely dinner in-between, or a drink at the zinc bar.

Chez Josephine draws a crowd unlike any other in New York as food critic Bryan Miller noted when he wrote: “The dining room is a confluence of the famous and the fashionable, the infamous and unsung – with every shade of skin on earth – and indeed you feel the magic of Chez Josephine.”

    We have long loved Chez Josephine. It’s a shame they had one server working the entire room and bar yesterday. There was no way he could succeed. Not his fault.

    Lovely little bistro in close proximity to Times Square however once inside you are swept away by the charming cozy atmosphere and gracious staff. We enjoyed a fixed price pre-Theatre lunch menu and everything was delicious. Our brunch was particularly special due to live piano player.

    Dining at Chez Josephine is like being transported to Paris in 1940. A pre-theatre favorite, even better if you have time to soak up the ambience and piano playing the old standards. The food is always good and the drinks are memorable. We had a great time!

    Loved the food and the piano!! We had a lovely dinner of salmon and spaghetti bolognese. The service and ambiance was just spectacular. We loved the piano and the overall vibe. Perfect place for dinner pre-theater or for a relaxing evening out.
