About this restaurant

  • Neighborhood gem
  • Charming
  • Great for creative cocktails
Chez Omar is a nouveau Caribbean restaurant. Chef Omar is inspired by his Jamaican roots and Caribbean travels. This location comes as a second iteration of Omar's Kitchen and Rum Bar in NYC's Lower East Side.

Chef Omar's initial interest in Jamaica’s native fruits and vegetables led to an all-out exploration of a culture that blends a Caribbean twang with an urban New York twist.

He grows in his style by experimenting with these cultural blending techniques for friends and family, even dabbling in new ways to curate vegan Caribbean dishes.

Dining at Chez Omar’s was a vibrant and memorable experience. We started with a delicious variety of appetizers creamy tuna tartare. The coconut curry mussels and jerk sliders , tropical flavors. For mains, the grilled branzino was perfectly cooked, the oxtail stew was rich and hearty, and the jerk poulet delivered the right amount of heat. The seafood pasta special was a standout, filled with fresh seafood in a light, flavorful sauce. Sides like rice and peas, sweet plantains, grilled asparagus, and creamy mac & cheese perfectly complemented our dishes. Cocktails like the frozen rum punch and coconut mojito kept the island vibes flowing. We ended on a sweet note with the decadent cheesecake and moist rum cake. Overall, Chez Omar’s offers a lively atmosphere, warm service, and incredible Caribbean nspired

We had a wonderful dinner at Chez Omar’s in the West Village. The Mussels Frites were flavorful and perfectly cooked, and the Crab Cake was packed with crabmeat and just the right amount of spice. For mains, we tried the Branzino and the seafood pasta special both were outstanding, especially the pasta, which was rich and full of depth. The Sauvignon Blanc paired beautifully with everything. We finished with a slice of cheesecake that was creamy and delicious. The ambiance was cozy and elegant, and the service was attentive. We’re definitely looking forward to coming back soon!

Dining at Chez Omar’s in the West Village was a true culinary escape. We started with the Croquettes de Lambis and the Gâteau de Crabe both crispy, flavorful, and beautifully plated. For mains, the Poulet Jerk delivered a perfect balance of heat and smokiness, while the Queue de Bœuf braisée was rich, tender, and comforting. Dessert was a delight with a creamy Crème Brûlée and a decadent Gâteau au Fromage . The Punch au Rhum and Margarita Épicée were vibrant and refreshing. We noticed an impressive wine selection we plan to explore on our next visit. Chez Omar’s blends Caribbean soul with French charm, creating an unforgettable dining experience.

At Chez Omar’s in the West Village, we explored a vibrant menu that impressed from start to finish. For appetizers, we enjoyed oysters, tuna tartare, steak tartare, crab cake, mussels in white wine broth, and spicy shrimp. Each bite was fresh and flavorful, with the tuna tartare and mussels standing out. For mains, we went with the oxtail, jerk poulet, steak au poivre, curry shrimp, and a perfectly cooked branzino. The mains were rich, tender, and deeply seasoned. We paired them with four tasty sides: truffle fries, coconut rice, grilled vegetables, and sweet plantains. Chez Omar’s also excels with cocktails: the hibiscus rum punch, mezcal margarita, tamarind whiskey sour, cucumber gin cooler, and a passionfruit mojito were all balanced and creative. Altogether, this spot blends bold flavors and a lively spirit into a truly memorable meal.

We had an excellent meal at a very reasonable price. The Jerk Poulet was spicy and delicious and the conch croquettes came with a classic lobster sauce- a great twist. Not very crowded, probably because of the out of the way location. We hope they can build up - they are worth it!

Chez Omar is a quiet, intimate dining room facing the Christopher Street Pier on the Hudson. The ambience is an antidote to the more typical Manhattan jostling, noisy restaurant scene. The endive and chèvre chaud salads were both fresh, generous and tastily dressed. The risotto au Safran was a standout, creamy and filling, stuffed with vegetables. Lamb chops (four to a serving), were a little rarer than we'd ordered and a little over-sauced but tender and tasty, served with broccoli rabe, green beans and roasted carrots. Wine choices by the glass were mostly from small producers, and inexpensive. Overall, I wish this new restaurant (it opened 9 months ago) well-deserved success, and look forward to returning.

Great experience with amazing food. I had the chicken & Waffles for brunch, and my girlfriend had fish and Parmesan grits. We were in awe how good both dishes were. Looking forward to having dinner there soon!
