A bustling eatery in the Central Eastside industrial neighborhood serving Italian-inspired, local, organic, seasonal, sustainable fare. The large oak-burning oven is the cornerstone of the large open kitchen. Clarklewis has helped define Portland as a food mecca since 2004 as a founder of our local farm-to-table sensibility.

It had been a few years since I had been to Clarklewis and I last remember not being impressed. However total review rating prompted me to try again. My experience last week confirmed previous experience. I had a green salad that was fabulous however the scallops I had were not fresh, a little mushy and not cooked enough. The final down note was the cost. Very high priced for the quality of the food. Sorry to say I’m not going back.

Really nice environment, good staff., solid wine menu. The price for the food items was not commensurate with the value. Maybe due to the special Valentine’s menu, but $75 ribeyes? 10% service charge on top? Would have no problem with spending this if I chose a premium steakhouse… but this wasn’t even close. From quality to cook. Hate to write this because I had high hopes. Will look for better value elsewhere.

Service was okay. Food was overpriced. The fact that they add additional 10% to the cost and expect more tip is ridiculous. They should adjust the price on the menu.

We went at 5:30 on a Saturday. CL was only about 1/4 full. Service was excellent and professional; menu options are relatively few (4 main dishes), but they were al excellently done and without any problems. The pizza was exceptionally good. About 6:30 they turned on the "background" music that was way too loud. After we requested it, they did turn it down a bit. Note that a 10% gratuity is added for the "back office/kitchen/cleaners", and you can tip the server separately. Personally, I wish they wold just raise their prices to cover the costs instead of adding a 10% mandatory for non-service staff, but that does not detrac from the dining experience.

Clarklewis is a favorite. I booked a table well in advance of my reservation. We, 2 of us, arrived precisely on time. 7 pm. The hostess had difficulty finding our reservation and once found seated us at the worst table in the place. Disappointing. The music was loud and our table was on a main thoroughfare to the kitchen. I would have requested a better table, but the place was packed. Food and service were excellent. But, it felt like they had lost our reservation and this had to squeeze us in.

The restaurant was slammed on a busy weekend night; however, service was really poor. Our cocktails sat at the bar for 10-15 minutes. My husband finally went to retrieve them and the bartender brought them over. By now, the large cubes were partially melter and the cocktails were too warm, and too diluted with water. Dinner was good, but they forgot to bring the salad, brought the entrees, and went back for the salad (which also looked like it had been sitting for awhile). The actual food was good - but the overall experience was disappointing.

Their website mentioned a happy hour but there was no happy hour menu, just their regular dinner menu.

Hadn't been here in quite a few years, but went with friends for my wife's birthday and it's still very good. We started with some very good oysters (and I'm not an oyster fan). for salad I had the throwback Zefiro's Caeser. We frequented Zefiro's back in the '90s. I had the duck ragout and my wife had the Salmon - both nice. $30 corkage for the wine I brought. The noise level was sedated even though they were playing some energetic music. Parking is easy which is a bonus.

We thoroughly enjoyed our dinner at Clarklewis. Classic Northwest Fresh cuisine worthy of a birthday, anniversary or other celebration. We had beet salad, root salad, pizza and pasta and all were top notch. The holiday decor of Noble firs and white lights was simple and stunning. We will return.
