   The atmosphere was nice, but the service was terrible. Booking a large group was a hassle—multiple calls, no follow-up from the manager. We ended up making two separate reservations and requested to be seated close together. Upon arrival, the hostess was unprepared, and it took 15 minutes to arrange our tables. We repeatedly asked for heating lamps, and our server ignored us but immediately turned them on for another table. Kids at other tables received water cups without asking, but we had to ask twice. For the price and reputation, the service was shockingly bad. Definitely not worth the effort or cost.

   As a local who visits/stays at Pelican Hill regularly.. this experience was disappointing. Started with being turned away at the Gate to the pool for valet and being told to self park up near the main entrance- to find out my friend was admitted through the same gate about 5 minutes after me.. When I went to check in the hostess was rude and non helpful. I had a reservation for 1:15 and requested and outside table.. I know that’s just a preference which is why I called and spoke with a manager who said it wouldn’t be problem.. to which the hostess replied “again that it was just a preference” and went back to her computer. She didn’t say anything else for a minute or two, I had to ask her again if I could get an outside table…she said it would be about 10-15 minutes. After about 15-20 mins my friend and I were finally led to our table outside at the very end.. passing about 5 empty two person tables. Our waitress did her best but she alone was serving two large parties, and because we were at the very end we were often looked over. Very disappointed in the attitude and level of service. This is also why I usually go to the grill instead…

   As it was xmas night, we were so impressed with the quality of service, food and ambience. Everyone working the holiday was so very welcoming and pleasant. A waiter even brought my wife a blanket to be sure she was comfortable under the space heater….an extremely professional and delightful experience…from the checkin to the valet.

   We had a family holiday luncheon. The arrival experience was very positive, the food outstanding, the view spectacular. Most importantly, Angelica, our wonderful and efficient server, was excellent and the whole luncheon created a most memorable time for all of us. Whenever, friends visit us in Newport Beach, we will definitely take them to the Coliseum Grill! Outstanding!

   My experience at the restaurant was disappointing and inconsistent with the overall quality of the Resort at Pelican Hill. The menu choices were uninspired. For example, I had the branzino on ratatouille and it was bland. The fillet which sat on top of a bed of ratatouille had skin on the bottom which made it difficult to combine the simple papillote preparation with flavor. With that said the ratatouille was also not well flavored. My companion did not eat two of the four diver scallops that were served in her entree. Dessert choices were also unimpressive, that too in the holiday season. Service was acceptable but not up to my expectations based on the otherwise excellent experiences I've had at the resort. Sad to see. This was once an outstanding restaurant.
