About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Great for creative cocktails
Compère Lapin - noun - "kom-pare la-pan" - 1. anthropomorphic rabbit character who served as the mischievous protagonist in Creole and Caribbean folk tales; 2. Chef Nina Compton's restaurant at the Old No 77 Hotel & Chandlery in the Warehouse Arts District of New Orleans.

Meals aren’t about trends, shock value, or opulence.
Meals are about moments, memories and those who surround you at your table.
We believe in the complexity of simplicity, and the power of pure flavors. Our histories, vast and varied, deserve to be memorialized and romanticized by dishes that at once remind us of home and transport us to somewhere new.

We don’t make food for everyone else, we make food for you.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Nina Compton

From the OpenTable editors: At Compère Lapin, James Beard Award-winning chef Nina Compton dazzles with showstopping dishes that marry her Caribbean heritage and French fine dining pedigree. Dig into favorites like goat curry and broiled shrimp with Calabrian chili butter in a stylish space dressed with exposed brick and warm woods. Don’t miss award-winning cocktails like The Copper Hopper—a tropical, tequila-forward drink served in a copper bunny mug, a nod to the restaurant’s namesake folklore rabbit.

The food stands out; creative fully developed , very few misses. We all loved the marinated-then-fried pig ears; the goat was fantastic as was the fish collar. Only the croquettes were -well, just good, not excellent.

Great food and ambience. I had the tasting (just feed me) menu and they were kind enough to make accommodations for dietary restrictions. The wine list has some very good choices, but the wine service could be improved. I asked for a recommendation between two bottles of wine of similar prices and the waitress Was stumped. The bottle I ordered was too cold and the buy the glass selection I ordered was too warm. Other than that, it was a lovely place and I will definitely return.

Amazing meal from start the finish! The pork belly was melt in your mouth. Terrific flavor. Experienced, hands down - one of the best made cocktails I have ever had. The flavors and textures and swirls of tasty goodness were divine. Caribbean flavors were in full effect and oh so good!

The goat curry with sweet potato gnocchi was amazing. The curry was so flavorful. Never experienced anything like it, a must order. The fish had a perfect crisp on the skin and was divine.

We had reservations here for Mother's Day brunch. Ordered the Nina Colada, because I figured it must be good if the owner put her name on it. It was delish! We shared an order of biscuits, served warm with whipped cheese and berry compote. Yum! My shrimp and coconut grits was tasty and subtle, and my husband's gnocchi with crawfish was the star of the show. Service was attentive and kind. We'll be back!

My goodness it was beawesome! The coconut nut grits took me back to my Great-Gran kitchen under her skirts! I had a whole moment at the table—thank you for that! Choose the “just feed me”! And yes get the goat—have mercy…Chef Nina, a deep bow to her excellence!

One of the best culinary experiences I have had. I travel all over the world, but I rank this restaurant as one of the top experiences of anywhere. Nina Compton is by far one of the top chefs anywhere! Excellent service and beyond excellent Caribbean/Creole blend of taste. St. Lucia proud!!!
