Compère Lapin - noun - "kom-pare la-pan" - 1. anthropomorphic rabbit character who served as the mischievous protagonist in Creole and Caribbean folk tales; 2. Chef Nina Compton's restaurant at the Old No 77 Hotel & Chandlery in the Warehouse Arts District of New Orleans.

Meals aren’t about trends, shock value, or opulence.
Meals are about moments, memories and those who surround you at your table.
We believe in the complexity of simplicity, and the power of pure flavors. Our histories, vast and varied, deserve to be memorialized and romanticized by dishes that at once remind us of home and transport us to somewhere new.

We don’t make food for everyone else, we make food for you.

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Nina Compton

From the OpenTable editors: At Compère Lapin, James Beard Award-winning chef Nina Compton dazzles with showstopping dishes that marry her Caribbean heritage and French fine dining pedigree. Dig into favorites like goat curry and broiled shrimp with Calabrian chili butter in a stylish space dressed with exposed brick and warm woods. Don’t miss award-winning cocktails like The Copper Hopper—a tropical, tequila-forward drink served in a copper bunny mug, a nod to the restaurant’s namesake folklore rabbit.

Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Compère Lapin offers an extraordinary dining experience with "amazing food and great service." Highlights include the "just feed me" tasting menu, showcasing a diverse array of creative dishes. Standout items like the curried goat and papaya salad are "not to be missed," and cocktails are "dynamite." The ambiance is vibrant, making it a must-visit in New Orleans.

Amazing food. This was my second visit in 2 years and the quality of the meals and food experience was high quality. Though a bit noisier than the first time. The food was exquisite. The only negative was as that though the meals were serve quite rapidly the dessert took almost 30min to arrive. They were still worth the wait. My favorite restaurant in New Orleans.

Biscuits were not as tender and flaky as I hoped but the pork belly and curried goat were phenomenal (no bones in the goat FYI!)

Waited a VERY long time for the small plate (biscuits), and this was the only good thing we ate. NO flavor in any of the entrees (and their accompaniments) ordered (fried chicken, snapper). The garden mocktail was refreshingly good. Ran out of the crab fingers so we didn’t get to try.

Disappointed at the long delay in getting dinner served. Some of the dishes were not as seasoned as they could be (ie snapper). Restaurant was so dimly lit that you could not read the menu.

Everything was delicious. My table selected the “Just feed me” option, and we got so much food - probably over two-thirds of the menu. Such a wonderful experience!!
