I can’t fault Coquina at all! The food by Chef Will Hopson and his team was just perfection! freshest of ingredients exciting taste combinations beautifully presented each dish a gastronomic treat! If I could I would have worked my way through the whole menu! Can’t wait to return! Superb location great buzz/vibe not forgetting ace front of house service, such a joy!’

Interesting and innovative food in a great location. It’s new and there’s a vibe that they’re still working things out in terms of service and organisation, but everything was mostly smooth.

About the only spot to take advantage of the full and glorious sea views over Hastings beach, with absolutely stunning Mediterranean plates. We slightly over-ordered to taste as much as possible (and took some home in a doggie bag), but the citrus and salt cod salad, the roasted broccoli, pumpkin with dukkah and the chips with aioli/bravas sauce were all fabulous. Ditto sourdough bread and pickles. Good shortish wine list with everything available by the glass, and excellent service. At LAST this gallery has the fabulous restaurant it deserves, and anyone can go there without having to pay the gallery fee. Bravo!

Such a lovely spot overlooking the fishing boats and sea. We went for Sunday lunch and had excellent plates of food, the roast lamb and pork belly. Absolutely delicious. The desserts were gorgeous too.

We were treated to a lovely late Sunday lunch on the terrace which gets lots of sunlight & a beautiful sea view. Started with the panelle with pickled chillies which was really quite special and generously sized, followed by freekeh labneh (with delicious Urfa smoked butter), squid rice with apple & fennel (unmissable I’d say) and a beautiful morcilla dish. Perfect for adventurous eaters & you get a lot of bang for your buck. The rolled pork loin roast was one of the best versions of a Sunday roast I’ve had, with plenty of crackling & paired really nicely with the Catalonian orange wine. Non-drinkers should try the homemade lemonade (perfect in the heat) or blood orange soda. We tried all the deserts (lemon sorbet, basque cheesecake, polenta cake) and would highly recommend any of them. The service is getting there, to be expected on an opening weekend, but overall we were really well looked after and left throughly satisfied. Will certainly be coming back to try the rest of the menu.

Nice simple menu. Labneh with radicchio leaves with a creamy base probably the star dish - very well balanced. Service was lovely. Chips great. Green salad - fab leaves but too wet from washing so dressing was lost. Had to move tables as sun streaking through front of restaurant creating glare. I’m sure they’ll find a way of remedying this. Overall really good experience.

We were really looking forward to trying Coquina, and while the experience had its nice moments, overall it didn’t quite live up to expectations for us. The food was presented well and certainly wasn’t bad, but we found the flavour combinations didn’t really hit the mark for us personally. The potato tortilla lacked seasoning and depth. The charcuterie board felt a little uninspired—just thick cuts of salami with a few cornichons, rather than a thoughtful selection. The endive dish was also quite tough and hard to enjoy. Another small but notable issue was the sun glare through the windows around 6 p.m. Several guests, including us, ended up having to move tables as the sun was shining directly into our eyes. A simple reorientation of the tables could easily solve this by allowing guests to enjoy the light without being blinded by it. Service was friendly enough, though when we decided to cut our meal short, there wasn’t much interest in finding out why. As it was during the opening week, we expected a little more engagement or curiosity—especially when feedback could be so helpful early on. We really wanted to love Coquina and support something new and local, but unfortunately, we left feeling a bit underwhelmed.

Soft launch or not. Service was lacking. Ignored when we arrived - male server walked around us twice avoiding eye contact despite the restaurant only being half full. Eventually brought to a table which wasn’t fully cleared. Table positioned in a doorway on the balcony so often squeezed past. Waitress forgot to bring bread with the mussels, didn’t know the drinks menu and the mussels were cold. Good quality ingredients but let down by inefficiency. I hope they get it right as it’s a golden opportunity for a thriving business.
