ELEM is a new restaurant and cocktail lab on Main + 5th.

Guests can expect to indulge in Top Chef Canada alum Mayekar’s bold cooking, featuring creative flavour-packed dishes that highlight the unique spices from cuisines around the world with local ingredients, alongside Winnie Sun’s inventive, element-inspired and sustainability-driven cocktails.

ELEM’s food menu is an exploration of flavours and spices from all corners of the world, including Bangkok, California, Spain, Mexico, Italy, and Mumbai – all inspired by Mayekar’s extensive travels and Indian heritage. There will also be a big focus on local BC-grown ingredients.

The 2,946 square foot, 76-seat space was designed by Vancouver-based Marko Simcich Architect and features three dining spaces and an open window into the kitchen to see the chefs at work.

    We came here to celebrate a friend's birthday and had one of the worst dining experiences in a while. From the beginning, the service was slow and unorganized — we waited ages for one of our dishes, eventually asked to cancel it, and the server said it was no problem. Then suddenly the dish showed up after we were told it was canceled, and the waiter said, "Now you get to try it on the house." Except… we were charged for it anyway. In the end we had to go back and ask them why we were charged and the manager paid us back in cash. He said something along the lines of the machine can’t do a refund?? I have never heard of this before. Meanwhile, we watched every other table celebrating a birthday get a complimentary dessert — we got nothing, even though we had mentioned it was a birthday. On top of all that, we were clearly being rushed out toward the end of our meal, which just added to the feeling that we weren’t welcome or valued as customers. Definitely wouldn’t recommend this place for any kind of celebration — or honestly, for dinner at all. Photo is to show that we went and honestly had such a terrible experience.

    Wow. Second time and it was amazing again. Took our son and daughter-in-law and was afraid we had given it too much hype... apparently not. They were blown away, the flavours were amazing and everything was done to perfection. Can't wait for the next visit. Seriously if your wondering should you go - You must your won't regret it!

    We ordered 8 dishes to be shared for 4 people. Just the right amount and they were delicious. Must save room for desserts!! The servers were friendly and attentive. Will definitely go back again.

    One of the best dining experiences I've ever had in the city. Dennis provided above and beyond service. The menu was full of creative and thoughtful dishes I have never seen before, which was much appreciated. The lamb belly skewers were the best lamb dish I have ever tried and love that they're always changing up their menu, which definitely makes me want to return again, so I can try more of chef Vish's wonderful and innovative creations.

    This is my second time being there, food was delicious and creative as usual. Staff are so engaging and really well trained with very high EQs (lol I rarely comment on this about restaurant staff but it’s true). We had a such a great experience and will certainly be back again soon! Well done team
