Ellina is a cozy, intimate restaurant located in the heart of Aspen.
Nestled in a stone walled dining room for the perfect, cozy Alpine dining experience. In the summer, the large outdoor patio offers al fresco dining in the shadow of Aspen Mountain.
We are known for our homemade pastas and modern Italian cuisine - Chef Diaz' roots in Puerto Vallarta, Mexico often bring a Latin spark to classic Italian dishes. Our signature Artichoke Heart Bruschetta has been on the menu 15 years and still has a passionate following - a must try on the menu!
Wine is our passion, and Ellina's worldly wine lists offers over 2500 choices, with a particular love and focus on the wines of Italy and France.

We arrived in town and needed place to grab food, thankfully they had an opening for 2. We truly enjoyed our dinner time there even though it was a little bit too noisy for our preference. Their espresso martinis were so so good!!

I am going to start off by saying the positive highlights of this restaurant: We were a party of two- we ordered the whole artichoke to start- AMAZING! Full of flavor- probably the best I’ve ever had! For our meals we had the gnochetti with shrimps and chicken Milanese. Both delicious. The ambiance was a great vibe- the servers were hustling and very attentive. We were really enjoying ourselves on our first night in Aspen. However, we ordered a specific wine from the wine list. The one that was brought and poured was not the one on the menu that we ordered , and it was the attitude of the owner that did not sit well with us. She did everything in her power to justify why the wine we received was a perfectly fine bottle and said her vendor brought the wrong case of wine but they are serving it anyways - even though that wasn’t what we ordered or the year of wine or the price. We have owned restaurants ourselves and when an owner treats you like they won’t ever see you again is just wrong. I understand this is a very touristy town and people come and go…. But don’t treat customers like they are in the wrong as if you’ll never have to see them again . That is the only reason for the one Star.-Other than that moment , we WILL go back again and I’m sure have an amazing time!

Denise, We have carried the wine you ordered for 10 years, through 10 vintages. It is an entry level, approachable wine that is meant for easy and early drinking. Please don't twist my words around, I did not say the vendor brought me the wrong wine, I said the vendor sent the new vintage 2019 vs 2020 and we had not changed it on the list yet. The new vintage is actually $4.90 more per bottle so the price should actually be higher. We have 3000 wines so sometimes a vintage changes. As a restaurant owner you should know your time to check that the wine is exactly what you want is when it is presented to you by the sommelier. You said nothing until you finished the bottle. After getting a bunch of attitude from you about it, I gave you 20% off, and you still wrote a bad review.

Cozy vibe but extremely overpriced and deceptive menu. We enjoyed the atmosphere and received good service early before the restaurant was busy. As it filled up, service became very inattentive. Cocktails were very good albeit quite expensive. Biggest complaint was the food felt like a bait and switch. The “prawn” pasta was served with what were clearly medium sized deshelled shrimp. When we asked the waitress you could tell she felt uncomfortable saying they were headless prawns and just repeated the line “this is what we serve.” You could tell this complaint had been made before. “Pancetta” pasta was served with what was clearly diner grade cheap piece of thin, greasy bacon sitting on top as the “pancetta.” It felt insulting as a customer to be served food so egregiously misrepresented. I never write reviews, but this place needed to be called out.

Camille, Accusing a business of using deceptive practices is an extremely aggressive claim, particularly when you are wrong. We ABSOLUTELY do not use bacon in the black pepper fettuccini. Unlike classic dishes like amatriciana and carbonara, where the pancetta is cubed and retains a chewy texture, we slice ours thinly on a meat slicer and then bake it pressed between 2 sheets so it doesn't curl up and gets crispy and flat. Did you not notice the circular shape? Big clue right there. Truly shocked your discerning palate could not differentiate between the two, as bacon is much smokier. Secondly, we use prawns or U10 shrimp on the gnochetti, depending on quality and availability. In the 9 years it has been a best seller on the menu, you are the first to take issue. Happy Holidays!

I had the tuna tartar and it was delicious. The octopus salad was excellent as well. Generally, the service was good, but they never came back to pour the wine, we had to do that.

Very quaint bar and dining area. We sat at the bar on a Saturday night around 6:30PM. Duncan and a second bartender were absolutely amazing. Both very personable and made excellent drinks and recommendations. We are longer dining individuals and appreciate the no rush. Coming from Dallas and both sort of foodies so we order a lot, just to try. We had the buratta, calamari, beef short rib, spinach bolognese, apple crisp, and an affogato which were all excellent. The short rib was moist and tender and the bolognese was hearty and plenty with great flavor. When we come back to Aspen, we will be dining here again. The hosts were also great!

Delicious meal ! We ordered the short ribs, and rigatoni pasta with eggplant and Italian sausage. It was delicious. Service was great. Noise was a bit loud but as expected. The ambience was very nice. Highly recommend.
