Review summary

AI-generated from verified diner reviews
Essex is a lively spot known for its "fabulous food" and "super friendly service." The Porterhouse Steak is a "spectacular" highlight, and the burrata dishes delight. It's a top pick for "bottomless brunch" with "great value." While some mention noise levels, it's a vibrant choice for group celebrations.

Essex pairs great music and a fun vibe with exceptional food. Highlights were the porterhouse steak for two and the gluten-free fried calamari with truffle aioli. Great craft beer list, including non-alcoholic options. My only complaint would be that I wish they had more mocktails.

Fantastic experience! We decided to grab a spot at the bar so we could catch the Knicks game, which made for a fun vibe. Alex, our bartender, was super friendly and really knew his stuff when it came to food and drink recommendations. We went with the prime ribeye steak for two, and it was cooked to perfection—medium rare with a nice crust. We also tried the seared scallops with bacon vinaigrette, which were absolutely delicious. The kale Caesar salad was made with whole anchovies--which can be a divisive prep but they really pulled it off. Highly recommend.

I thought the server was a bit rude to us and stressed me out telling me she needed to take my order within minutes of sitting down. We were waiting for one more person to arrive and I had no idea this was a policy. Also never heard of a restaurant not giving refills on regular coffee and by the way the first round was lukewarm. Had we known we would have all asked for fresh cups of coffee. Unfortunately, these things left a bad taste in my mouth and I have no desire to return to Essex

Went on Mother’s Day so fully expected it to be loud but WOW it was hard to hear each other speak. No free refills on regular coffee, which for $4 that’s a little silly for the area. My burger was so oily and greasy that I only ate half, and they forgot to put eggs on the chilequiles. The server fixed the egg situation very quickly, and the staff kept our waters filled constantly. Overall not a great first impression.

We loved Essex. The food was delicious. The crostini appetizer was creamy and had a lovely sweet taste. Our waitress was attentive to our needs and friendly. We will definitely go again.

Mear Essex Market, The Tenement Museum. The food is excellent. The restaurant ambience doesn’t have the wow factor in the decor but no matter with food this good. A mix ups with our drink order was remedied. A request for crackers with the stupendous oysters was a bit weird but I find the break with tradition acceptable. It feels like they should offer a side salad too.

A bit disappointing to be honest, service lacking food not cooked as ordered and steaks small - would not recommend

We had dinner at Essex before catching a show and really enjoyed our experience. It was pretty quiet but then again it was an early Tuesday night. Our server, Viosa, was incredibly sweet and made us feel welcome right away. We shared small plates, with the standouts being the burrata and pesto flatbread and the shrimp wontons. Espresso martinis made with real espresso were also a hit. Overall, a great choice.

Your glass will never be empty and the food was great! It is extremely loud and hard to have a conversation, so probably great for large parties, not a one on one catch up or date type of place. My one suggestion though would be for the seating area upstairs in the little walk way area to feel a little more intentional, I felt like we were sat in a make shift area to pack in people. Overall though I would go again and recommend for a good bottomless brunch
