The Formosa Cafe is a restaurant and bar founded in 1939 and located at 7156 Santa Monica Boulevard at the intersection with North Formosa Avenue, in West Hollywood, California.

The restaurant has a long history of movie star and film industry patronage due to its close proximity to studio lot across the street, which began as the United Artists lot and was later owned by Warner Bros. Generations of movie stars such as Humphrey Bogart and Clark Gable have eaten meals at The Formosa. Frank Sinatra is reputed to have spent many nights at the Formosa in the 1950s, pining over Ava Gardner.

After a brief 2 year hiatus, a complete refurbishment, and a tremendous menu update The Formosa Cafe has returned to serve the Los Angeles community once again.

    We love this place! Atmosphere is fabulous. Easy parking. Food needs a little help, though. Things don’t taste like they’re from scratch- very salty.

    Amazing experience. Loved the food, ambiance and service. We had been meaning to take our 13 year old son to visit as we used to come when we were in our 20s (~ 30 years ago.) As evacuees from the Palisades fires and staying temporarily in WeHo, we took the opportunity to share this wonderful piece of LA history with him. Their acknowledgement and sensitivity to our situation was so heartwarming and overwhelming. Made us feel human again. Xoxo

    The food is very good and most of their dishes are well portioned. However the customer service has been gradually declining the last few times I’ve gone with last night being one of the worst experiences sadly.

    Fabulous food. Waiter was knowledgeable, friendly and helpful. Hostess was extremely welcoming. Recommend it for old school familiarity and great food.

    Great and friendly service from bartender Matt and server Simone. We enjoyed our drinks and entire meal was delicious. Great ambiance! We will repeat!
