Our award-winning Founding Farmers DC flagship restaurant opened in 2008 just three blocks west of the White House on Pennsylvania Avenue. Open 365 days a year, our team is passionate about crafting dishes and drinks from scratch with high-quality ingredients from farmers and suppliers we know and trust.

Join us for breakfast, lunch, or dinner, weekday happy hour, and a la carte weekend brunch.

Majority owned by American family farmers, including the more than 50,000 farmers of the North Dakota Farmers Union, our restaurant is guided by a very simple principal: we see and share everything Through The Eyes Of The Farmer.™ We actively care about our guests, our communities, the planet, and the next generation. I have eaten at this wonderful DC eatery for breakfast before and looked forward to today. Though the restaurant was very busy we were seated fifteen minutes early! Attentive waiter, for sure and plate of biscuits soon emerged. We then had to wait an hour and ten minutes for our brunch. As I was facing the street I could see many many outgoing orders fly out the door during our wait and it was obvious where the kitchen’s efforts went. Quite inexcusable. We had 2:15 hours before our train and we barely made it there in time. Did we eat? Yes; make our train, indeed but it didn’t have to be this way. 1:10 for French Toast and 3 egg dishes doesn’t have to take the time it did. Beware.

For brunch it is about a half step up from ihop. If that’s what you’re looking for, it’s serviceable but the food is not impressive or interesting and the service was slow.

While I had a reservation, my party of 3 had to wait about 10-15 minutes. Once we were seated, our waiter came over, introduced himself and stated he would give a few minutes to decide our drink order. True to his word he came back promptly and took our drink order. We later ordered our meals which all were delicious. The manager, Pretty Ricky, checked in on us frequently as did our waiter. Once we asked for the bill, Pretty Ricky, stated he comped two items as an apology since we had to wait for our table. This was an unexpected surprise and of course very appreciative! I don’t live in DC but I usually visit Founding Farmers when in town. I highly recommend and it’s always a nice touch when the restaurant goes above and beyond of an expectation.

Overall I enjoyed the food, but the service was unfortunately slow. Waited 20 min to get water after being seated and was told twice I’ll be right with you. Then similar wait to get the check after we finished eating. That said, excellent recipes and food. Go on a slower night.

Everything was great, however on very cold nights the place should be a tad bit warmer it felt cold inside.

Great service, great cocktail, disappointed in food. Meatloaf was a big block of very charred meat that was over cooked, string beans cold. I’ve eaten here often…first time food wasn’t all that good.
