Gees Restaurant & Bar is an independently-owned, restaurant, bar, and terrace set within North Oxford’s famous Grade II listed Victorian conservatory, once home to the Gee family’s greengrocers and floristry, just a ten-minute walk from Oxford’s city centre.

Enjoyed by locals and visitors alike for the past four decades, Gees serves a distinctly Mediterranean-inspired menu using the best seasonal ingredients, simply prepared and expertly cooked by head chef Lee Parsons, featuring regional dishes of Spain, Portugal and Italy.

The private dining space, Gees Gallery, upholds an authentic and organic feel, with bare stone walls, oak panelling and a flash of rich green marble, featuring its own private bar, entrance and art collection. Gees' Secret Garden provides an enchanting al fresco setting for delectable dishes and chic cocktails.

Free parking for two hours is available just a short walk away on Canterbury Road and Bevington Road.

I was disappointed. The service was very poor - it was very difficult to attract the attention of the serving staff throughout the meal, and they didn't come to see if we wanted to order drinks or a further course at any point. The food was ok but nothing special, not what you would expect at that price. I am unlikely to visit again.

Lovely food. Service was good - just the right touch of contact and check in. We had a lovely evening especially as one of our party was late - they were very helpful in supporting us to keep our table a little longer

Gees is a lovely place. The food is superb. The setting delightful. However the night we were there our drinks took over half an hour to arrive and thereafter the service was completely rushed (though efficient) so not all that relaxing. They definitely wanted everyone out by 10.30! Saying that, I think nowadays this is probably the case for most restaurants. Well priced. So all in all Gees is still worth a visit and the food really is great.

Thank you for taking the time to leave this kind and informative review, we appreciate your feedback. I do sincerely apologise that your drinks took a longer time than usual to arrive, I have reviewed the CCTV footage and this took 15 minutes which is slightly longer than we aim for, even on a busy Saturday evening. Regarding the service speed overall, we certainly do not wish to rush out guests at all and usually we do have tables that stay later but on this particular evening we had much more early reservations who subsequently left early, but I do apologise for the disruption in atmosphere. Nevertheless, I am delighted that you think Gees is worth the visit and we hope to welcome you back soon! Kind Regards, Roxy - Restaurant Manager

This was our first visit to Gees and it won't be our last. What a beautiful setting and great ambience, though it is quite noisy on a busy night. We were a party of three and just wanted a light supper so we all had pasta dishes accompanied by some sides. The food was beautifully prepared, fresh and tasty and we look forward to trying a wider range of dishes next time. Our guest said the Crema Catalan was the best she's ever had and the Amaretti with the Affogato were divine- moist and fragrant! Lovely list of wines by the glass and very efficient service. The whole place had such a lovely atmosphere.

Enjoyment of anniversary evening out was difficult in such a noisy environment – 75-85 decibels. Such loud noise impairs the ability to taste what you are eating and though the food appeared good, I didn't really enjoy it while we struggled to hear each other. The young man who waited on us was good but there didn't seem to be enough staff to provide a prompt service to the diners. No hooks for coats and hats. The floor may be clean but having to dump my best hat down beside my chair didn't impress. I'm not keen to try Gee's again. Sorry.
    GeesResponded on April 5, 2025
Thank you for sharing your feedback, and I’m sorry to hear your anniversary experience wasn’t as enjoyable as it should've been. I understand that the glasshouse can get rather energetic when full, so we do offer alternative seating options, in the bar area and our covered & heated terrace, for those that would prefer quieter areas. If you decide to visit again, please don’t hesitate to let us know, and we will be happy to accommodate you in one of those areas. I’m glad to hear that you were pleased with the service provided by your waiter. However, I apologise if you felt the service during your visit was not as prompt as you'd hoped - we are constantly working to ensure the right balance of staff are on to meet the needs of all our guests. We hope to see you again. -Peter, R. Manager
