The Golden Lion is an attractive, traditional English pub located next to St James Park and close to two royal palaces. We always offer a warm and friendly welcome to all our customers, we sometimes even see a few famous faces, including Prince Charles once.
We have a wide selection of draught beer including 4 real ales, one of which is regularly changing guest ale. We have a choice of high quality wines from around the world and also offer some speciality spirits alongside our standard range.
The food is always freshly prepared by our in-house chef; our menu changes seasonally and always includes traditional pub favourites.
Our upstairs room with its own bar operates as a restaurant at lunch times and is available for private use in the evenings and at weekends and we will always do our best to cater for any of your party needs. It also has its own balcony which you may smoke on. Please come and visit us soon.

Avoid, if you want food or decent service. Our experience here was absolutely appalling! This was booked for a Bank Holiday Monday to celebrate my Birthday with my family, whom I rarely see. When we arrived we were guided upstairs, to our table, that was not ready. On top of this, they set the table in such a way that meant the 5th person was not able to sit down anywhere. We were then left for 15/20 minutes before the staff actually came to take any form of order. The experience got worse, when one of the party asked for some tap water, the waitress gave him a look of contempt and continued to ask what else he would be drinking. Another member of the party asked for a pint of San Miguel and got an opened bottle partially poured into a glass, so hard to reject. When someone asked for a specific beer, instead of apologising and explaining that the beer was off, the waitress just said, 'No, we don't have that, it's a bank holiday.' When we finally came to ordering food, the waitress failed to tell us that half the menu was off. After we started ordering, we kept being told 'No.' without explanation. Apparently the Bank Holiday means they don't have as much food or beer. Again when explaining this, the waitress was incredibly rude, no apologies at any point, just saying that this is expected on a Bank Holiday, which it isn't. When you have lots of tables booked for the day, food and drink should be ensured that there is enough, and when there isn't enough, actually say sorry. After all this, we decided to move elsewhere, as the service was awful and we actually wanted food that we could eat, as someone who doesn't eat meat, there was one option left, which I thought was terrible for a birthday. When we said we would like the bill and to leave, the waitress came over with a card machine and just put her hand out for a card, without actually giving us a bill or a price. Overall, go to a different pub in the area, much better nearby(Three crowns)

The half chicken was dry and had been fried to a crisp. Nice location.

We were at St James Palace for a presentation. The location was excellent only 2 mins walk. The food was good pub grub, nothing fancy but well cooked and tasty. Excellent value for money, good service and easy to book a table on line.

Lovely, traditional pub with lots of atmosphere. There is a cosy upstairs dining room. However, the food was a bit underwhelming and the service a bit vague. perfect destination for drinks, though.

Food was absolutely fantastic, staff were very friendly and nothing was to much trouble for them. We had a two course afternoon meal before attending a matinee theatre booking. Would highly recommend this little pub. Great value for money .

Golden Lion probably comes into its own in the evening when folk want a friendly pub to hang out. Lunch time ok for quick burger in old pub but not much else. Friendly and helpful bar staff. Cheap burgers...chicken and veggie options good...during week. Handy for Green Park area.

Great little restaurant, with good food and at good value. Service can be a little hit & miss, e.g. We had to remind the waitress to bring the gravy for the toad in the hole and only after we'd eaten most of the meal we realised it ought to have come with mash. That said, the dish was delicious.

Characterful old pub. Good was okay but nothing exciting and quite expensive for pub grub. Wine was also very overpriced- £9 plus for a large glass of Sauvignon Blanc!

The menu shown on Open Table is not correct. I was disappointed as booked at the Golden Lion based on this menu which was not available. The food was not great - the burger was dry and the macaroni cheese seemed to have two squares of processed cheese laid on top. The waitress (who seemed to be all alone over a Friday lunch period) was helpful. Coffee was ok.
