Haikan is our second Sapporo Ramen shop in DC after Daikaya. Haikan means, “pipe works” in Japanese, an ode to Atlantic Plumbing Building where we are located. At Haikan, we focused on creating the taste of ramen from the showa period, the golden age of ramen in Japan. There are over 1000 ramen shops in the city of Sapporo alone, and we are excited to share a completely new line-up of traditional Sapporo style ramen in DC. In addition to ramen, we are serving a playful selection of Japanese-inspired kozara (small plates) to share, or to start with, or to make a whole meal of by picking a few of them. Haikan's bar serves a collection of Japanese-inspired cocktails, and a concentrated selection of Japanese sake, shochu, beer, whisky, and more.

Popular dishes

Our noodles are custom made for us in Sapporo, Japan. The stock is made in-house and simmered for about 8 hours with high quality bones (chicken, beef, pork) along with kombu, onions, and garlic producing a clear broth that's delicate yet complex. All of the bowls (except the veggie) are topped with garlic, onions, bean sprouts, ground pork, chashu, nori, and scallions. The veggie comes with egg-free noodles and topped with assorted vegetables making it vegan friendly

Our wait staff were kind but not very attentive. Unfortunately this meant when we found hair in our broth there was no one to mention it to. The ramen also tasted like gasoline. It was off putting. We liked the bao appetizer.

I love Haikan. Consistently great food and service! The only thing missing this time was that the usually delivious and unique cocktail list was gone and replaced with a smaller and unexceptional one. So too bad!

The food there was absolutely delicious. We were traveling from New Mexico and wanted to get some ramen! This was a great choice, the taste was amazing and the ambience was very chill. We enjoyed ourselves and will definitely try to come back.

You cannot get a better bowl of ramen in D.C. The broth, the proteins, the vegetables -- all perfecting cooked and beautifully seasoned. LOVE IT.

I brought a group to try and everyone had a wonderful time at this place, the staff made us feel welcomed right away, very friendly and attentive. The menu has a wide range of good selection, I had the pork belly with noodles soup and bao buns, were delicious and fresh. We all had a pleasant experience and would definitely go back!
