Tiny portions for a big price tag. The food was good but not $200 dinners worth of good. Nice ambience lovely setting and Charlie our server was amazing. We probably would not come back.

Really liked the food from their new Mediterranean menu, particularly the balloon bread with hummus. The two of us shared five smaller menu items and enjoyed them all (balloon bread, chicken kabab, bucatini, broccolini, and chocolate torte).

The food now is Mediterranean and Moroccan. They need to go back to their old more traditional and accessible menus!

The Mauna Lani is a lovely property and the Halani is well appointed BUT the service (for which they tagged a mandatory $265 fee onto our bill) was non-existent. We tried several times - unsuccessfully - to order beverages with our brunch. No one ever came to the table. I rooted through the staffing station myself for clean silverware and then distributed it to my family. The food was good and there was plenty of variety, but it was not worth being treated with disdain and not worth the price we paid. It felt like SNL meets White Orchid. We won't go back.

Space is great. Menu is super appealing, but the execution fell a bit flat. Service was friendly, but sometimes went missing. Overall a descent experience, but not great for the price point.

We were so disappointed with our recent dinner at Halani. This had been one of our go-to favorites every time we visited the Big Island but I won’t need to go back anytime soon. They recently changed their menu from a Hawaiian focus to a generic-feeling Mediterranean one, and it was a disappointment, with some dishes feeling like they were conceived by an average home cook who was in a hurry (overcooked and over salted broccolini, a cauliflower dish that was basically a hunk of undercooked cauliflower with a little scoop of sauce plopped next to it). The prices are high, and while we expect that a great dinner in a resort in Hawaii will be pricey, this was truly excessive. $40 for a sundae? Seriously? Our server was friendly but was distracted, extremely slow and not knowledgeable about anything on the menu (granted it is apparently a new menu as of a couple of weeks ago but still). So sad that the Auberge messed with such a good thing!

The ambiance and setting could not be more picturesque. The food was incredible with flavor. Mediterranean inspired, selections are intended to be shared family style. We had the bread balloon, with a side order of the spicy aioli (pretty mild spice), zucchini chips w tzatziki, ahi steak with orzo, ali’i mushrooms and the broccolini which were grilled and made with lemon juice, garlic and crushed red peppers. Zucchini chips are a must if you’re trying to satisfy your savory palate and the seared ahi steak will melt in your mouth. Service and hospitality were outstanding from the valet to the host stand to the servers. My water glass was never empty! Also, there is live music every Monday! The artist was incredibly musically gifted, his acoustic talent was evident. The open air/face restaurant allows the stunning view of Hawaii and the sunset is a short walk from the restaurant to the beach shore front. Looking for romance and delectable food choices? The chef uses spice in far too many dishes. Also, there is a noticeable lack of vegetables in each entree.
