About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Charming
  • Good for groups
Han Oak has launched it's Spring Menu! Chef Peter Cho's take on jipbap, home-style cooking inspired by the bounty of Oregon. Expect a table full of banchan and sizzling entrees, rooted in Korean culture.

Han Oak is a communal, prix-fixe Korean restaurant emphasizing traditional flavors, seasonal ingredients, and fine technique. From their addictive hot pot to their mouthwatering dumplings, every bite at Han Oak is a taste of pure happiness.

Book a later reservation and ask about our full-on karaoke setup! Karaoke may or may not happen but if you see the disco lights and the fog machine on, get in the queue!

Why they're an Icon

Executive chef: Peter Cho

From the OpenTable editors: Han Oak has been a smash hit with critics from GQ and Portland Monthly since it opened in 2017, thanks to James Beard Award-nominated chef Peter Cho’s shareable Korean tasting menus. The feast starts with banchan—including Cho’s mom’s kimchi—and moves through heaping platters of bulgogi and koji-cured coppa before ending with bingsoo (shaved ice) and, if you're lucky, boisterous late-night karaoke.

Food was not great. Weird textures, and bland mains. Both of em. Very disappointed

Going in to han oak. I thought it was going to be another overated place that had small portions and a couple of unique flavours. But they really surprised us. The flavours of the banchan were all fanatic and there was many to choose from and mix to your preference. All the banchan was unique and excellent in there own way. The fried potato banchan was extra special and the extra seaweed was a nice touch. The second course consisted of flounder, a alternative king oyster mushroom vegan option to the flounder and steamed egg with crab and roe. Surprising the alternative to the flounder was actually the superior dish and we usually almost always enjoy the protein flavor way more. The flounder was good but was not elevated like all the other dishes. The steam egg and crab and roe, we had two versions one without the roe and one with. The one without the roe was our preference. The crab was super fresh and flavourful and I have never had steamed egg that smooth. The mains was excellent. We shared everything. The halibut was cook fantastically well. my wife loved this dish because it's slightly acidic with the tomato flavours. I preferred the short rib flavours. Both were served with a good amount of protein and vegetables which we appreciated. The tiramisu We unfortunately were not a fan of the jelly layer. But once we removed the jelly layer it was much better and was very nice. The portions was excellent we left feeling very filled. The value for money was pretty good which again was surprising. Service was excellent we were made to feel very welcome and the whole experience was very comfortable. Thank you.

Han Oak matched our expectations perfectly. It was so warm and welcoming. We specifically chose to sit at the counter because we wanted a glimpse of the action in the kitchen plus more face time with the staff. If you really love learning about the food, the drinks, and getting to know staff more intimately, the Chef's Counter is for you. The food was fresh, fun, and really cozy. A highlight for us was the cocktails - a little funky but really on brand for Han Oak's atmosphere and food.

Very overpriced for an average and bland hot pot. Was expecting Korean and there was nothing Korean about the meal except for mediocre samjang and kimchi. Had the pink pony club or something drink and it was over the top sweet. Had to wait until the ice melted and watered it down to drink it. My friend and I were served one dessert between the two of us even though dessert was part of the prix fixe menu? Felt like I was bamboozled by the good reviews. One telling sign is that there were very few Asian diners in a supposedly Korean restaurant.
