About this restaurant

  • Good for special occasions
  • Good for business meals
  • Lively
Located in the heart of Gramercy in the restored Assembly Hall of the landmarked United Charities Building, Hawksmoor is a steak restaurant that celebrates all-natural, pasture-reared, and traditionally dry-aged beef. Our beef is seasoned simply with sea salt and cooked over live-fire charcoal. Our seafood is locally and sustainably sourced from northeastern waters and we use small-farm produce whenever possible. On Sunday afternoons Hawksmoor keeps with the tried-and-true British tradition and features a Sunday Roast.

Completing our offerings are award-winning cocktails, including New York City's coldest martini, and a carefully curated wine selection. The restaurant houses 150 in the dining room and 35 in the bar area. There are also two private dining rooms that can hold 12 people and serve exclusive, family-style menus.

  • Sunday Roast

    Multiple dates available
Sundays at Hawksmoor are all about our Sunday Roast: all-natural, dry-aged, slow-roasted Rump served with crispy beef dripping potatoes, Caraflax cabbage and carrots, gigantic Yorkshire puddings, lashings of bone marrow & onion gravy and the option for a side of cauliflower cheese or slow-roasted bone marrow and onions. Sunday Roast dates back to the 15th century where large joints of meat were roasted on a spit over an open fire; to achieve a similar flavor, we start ours on our charcoal grill and finish them in the oven. Many who've had a Sunday Roast equate it to a Thanksgiving dinner – a comforting, filling meal that is best in the company of loved ones. And, should a Bloody Mary, or two, be consumed alongside it, who are we to judge?

Great food and service. They even comped me a round of drinks I was owed from the Spitalfields branch. Monday nights are $10 corkage and a great way to save a bundle on your bill

The food here is excellent. It is the best steak houses in NYC, hands down. My only complaint is the beautiful dining room is very noisy -- almost every time I eat here my guests complain about the noise. No matter how many times I make reservations here, I am treated as if it is my first time here. No effort is made to welcome returning guests no matter how many times you are a guest.

The service was excellent and the food was delicious. Very nice wine list but not extensive - good selection of quality wines for all budgets. Our only disappointment was in the bone marrow starter. It had delicious caramelized onions on it but they overpowered the delicate bone marrow flavor. Special treat: complementary ice cream dessert for our anniversary. Loved that they were able to accommodate a food allergy. Definitely recommend!

Pros: beautiful, open spaced dining room. Everything we ordered tasted great. Cocktails all good. Reception at front desk wonderful. Cons: service started out ok but went downhill as dinner progressed. Main course ( all steaks, and some side dishes ) took over an hour. I would have ordered a glass of wine when my meal finally came but server had disappeared into one of the private dining rooms ( looked as if they had waitstaff folding napkins in there)! For the price point, service should much better. Another server took over our table at the end and was on top of things but was a little too late at this point. Many expense account diners so perhaps our comparatively smaller order of drinks and food was not worth our servers time? The room while nice is a bit loud. No desire to return.

Where do we start? We have frequented Hawkmoor MANY times in London and loved it so much. This location in NYC was the loudest restaurant we've literally ever been in. When you pay over $200 for 2 people to eat, you should be able to hear your conversation. We pretty much ate in silence. The manager stopped by and was very kind. He tried to help but where we were seated was just in the middle of the loudest part. The host told us he would move us to a quieter table but never came back to check on us. Food was very good but forgettable due to the noise volume in the restaurant. We probably won't be back.

The service was impeccable except that everyone looked like they were camping for a few weeks before coming to work - very casual, kind of grungey. Didn't fit the price tag. BUT impeccable service. The food portions are microscopic. Like seriously so so small. There were some missteps but it didn't ruin the overall experience: mashed potatoes fully unseasoned and cold, toffe desert, proportion of cake to ice cream to sauce. Way too much sauce. looked rush and with no skill or thought. The meat was amazing. Very delicious and cooked to perfection. BUT way too small and the waiter should have advised that the size for 4 people would have left us hungry. French fries were not good.

The service was great but unfortunately the quality was not. The meat was salty. It was very loud inside the restaurant. We could not hear each other, and the waitress struggled to hear us as well. The prices did not match the quality, and I would not say I got a great value. It was great to go once but not a repeat visit.

The lighting at lunch felt a little too cafeteria like. The was a good value but somehow the overall experience was not very cozy.
