Philosophy

An enriching culinary experience, we set out to create delicious dinners while following a strict ethos on sourcing. We hold close relationships with all of our farmers and ranchers, making a uniquely personal menu. Dishes change weekly based on what is available on the farm and in the larder. While everything is sourced in a tight radius, the flavors are inspired by our travels and memories.

    This was our first visit to Hayward. We did the kick back menu option for a chef’s choice 5 course meal and it was amazing. Every dish was excellent and had unique flavors. The ambiance was elevated casual and the service was outstanding. We can’t wait to come back next season to try new menu items. Thank you so much!

    Great experience with food and staff. The food coming off this particular cook line is creative and fluid. These people are not responding to industry trends in their plated expressions. They are not preparing something better than someone else. Each dish was impressive and unique…passionately original. Well done I say to the crew at Hayward 🤌🏼

    They changed their menu to be spicy and we were unaware of this change prior to choosing the restaurant. Our parents were not inclined to eat there so we asked for the check.

    Very charming restaurant with excellent service. We ordered a broad array of food and drinks, the standouts included the freyja martini, which as a martini lover was the best I’ve ever had, and the fermented pepper bread. The chef tempura fries vegetables to replace bread in a couple of instances including turnips in the Cesar salad and romanesco with the clams, to mixed results. Some dishes are just better complimented by bread and butter, but I do appreciate the creativity. Unfortunately our clams were gritty, which they graciously removed from the bill, and the cheesecake texture was more basque style than New York as advertised. Being situated in an open market, the restaurant is quite loud, both from other patrons as well as an overhead exhaust fan that wore on my nerves and distorted the music for a portion of our meal. Overall, very high quality food and a satisfying experience- definitely recommend!

    This was my second time at Hayward and it was just as amazing as the first time. The food is fresh, creative, and phenomenal. Every time I’ve tried things I would never normally order and it’s always delicious. The waitstaff does an excellent job of presenting and explaining the dishes as well as being attentive, always noticing when your water is low or you’re ready for a new cocktail (excellent cocktails too) Overall five stars all around, love this spot and can’t wait to come in again!

    Award worthy dining in an unassuming space. The food is the star here. The ambiance takes a backseat. But the food is so delicious you don’t mind. Cocktails were good too.
