Located in the historic Fulton Market district of Chicago’s West Loop neighborhood, il Carciofo is a Roman Italian restaurant drawing inspiration from the restaurants and markets in one of Chef Joe's favorite cities, Rome. The restaurant offers a seasonal menu of elevated yet familiar Italian fare with traditional antipasti, Roman-style pizzas, hand-rolled pastas produced daily in a dedicated pasta lab and market-driven mains that highlight the season's bounty.

Il Carciofo delights with a vibrant atmosphere and "amazing" Roman cuisine, making it a standout in Chicago's dining scene. Guests rave about the "incredible" service and "delicious" dishes like the carbonara and artichoke appetizer. The open kitchen concept adds flair, though some find the noise level high. Very bright and couldn’t hear any music. The pastas were good but the meat dishes were a bit on the tough side. I’d stick to pasta and pizza here!

Pastas were the highlight here. Portions were on the smaller side for the price.

Promising new restaurant still working out the kinks. We ordered 6 items. 3 were great, 1 was good, 2 were inedible. The great: Lamb Rib, Kale salad with Anchovy vinaigrette, and the pistachio gelato. The good: Pesto Gnocchi - very flavorful, slightly undercooked The Bad: Sautéed Calamari - very fishy flavor, served lukewarm, the Oxtail tagliatelle - heavily over salted, couldn’t have more than one bite. They made it right by taking the calamari and tagliatelle off our bill. Overall seems like they’re still dialing their process in.

One of the worst meals I’ve had in Chicago. The pasta was hard, meat flavorless. I couldn’t

We went during Valentine’s Day and had the prix fixe menu. There was nothing wrong with the food - all of it was great - but the value was just not there. Ordered separately from the menu, since all are normal items, the cost would have been $50-60 less per couple. We’re going to go back, but I would steer clear of any special events here since the markup seems a bit egregious.

Everything was amazing. My husband and I went for Valentine’s Day. It was a 4 course meal. Everything was delicious and the temperature of the food was always perfect!

We went to Il Carciofo for dinner on Valentine’s Day. Least romantic evening ever. It was crowded, loud and rushed. We had the valentines price fix menu. We didn’t even have our drinks yet and they delivered the first course! They hovered over us on each course trying to clear plates and deliver the next course before we finished. Fastest meal I have ever consumed. Won’t be back.

Food was hit and miss. Suppli were great. Artichoke was charred, dry, and not enjoyable. I want to come back and try it on a regular dinner service night. Almatricana was good. Veal medallions were dry, tough and overpowered with sage. I wish the potatoes were crispy and dropped in the fryer before service. Basil cocktail was sweet. Dirty martini was excellent. Bussers were prompt to pick up spent plates and serviceware. Server only checked in once or twice. Overall not worth the nearly $400 spent. Will come back during regular dinner service.

I wouldn't ever go here again. The artichoke was fried to dust. The rest of the food was luke warm. The saltimbocca was dry. Dinner was $400. And to top it off, they sneak a 5% surcharge into your bill that is meant for employee Healthcare. If you're going to charge me for for your employees insurance, at least be transparent about it.
