Iron Gate, located near Dupont Circle, stands as one of the district’s oldest continuously operating restaurants and is split between a sumptuous dining room, a wisteria covered patio and a handsomely enclosed carriageway that houses the bar.

Chef Anthony Chittum, a native of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, and his team have revitalized the space with a menu that takes inspiration for the cuisines of Greece, Sicily, Sardinian and Southern Italy, interpreting those traditions and techniques using the finest products and seasonal ingredients of the Mid-Atlantic.

    We went in December and sat in the main dining room - not the gorgeous patio - and were disappointed with the atmosphere: the tables were cramped next to each other, we felt like we were sharing our table with two others, and the noise level was quite high between people's conversations and the music. The food was tasty and the service was good, it just didn't feel like the romantic experience we were hoping for. The bar area did look like a fun space - maybe for a dinner with a friend - and the patio is amazing when it's warm. Was just hoping for a more cozy, intimate feel in the main dining room.

    We brought our interns to Iron Gate to celebrate their last day and our waitress Kayla could not have been lovelier. The room, with a fire going, was cozy on a cold day. The food was delicious -- Kayla gave great and knowledgeable recommendations -- and the special touch to congratulate our interns -- pretty little cake pops -- was really above and beyond.

    From the moment you walk in, you know, this is going to be a special experience. And it was. The service was impeccable, friendly, and professional. The server was knowledgeable and attentive, but not overly so. The ambience was through the roof, and the food the same. A wonderful experience capping off an exciting morning in Dupont Circle.

    What a lovely welcome to our family and my parents who were celebrating their 55th wedding anniversary. The team and in particular our waiter were attentive and warm and made my parents feel very special. Thank you Iron Gate team!

    We had a GORGEOUS dinner with my in-laws the night before Thanksgiving. We've heard great things about Iron Gate, but truly everything from the service, to the items we ordered (and multiple little extras the chef sent out) were extraordinary. The chocolate dessert, we all agreed, was one of the best of our lives. Truly a hospitality-driven experience and we can't wait for an excuse to head back.
