The food was really good as usual. The ambience amazing. Service not so much. I sat at a table alone and had it get up to tell my server that my drink was too sour. I thought at that point he would notice that I was there but nope….ignored the whole entire time. I poured my own water. The empty dishes stayed there for a very long time. I wish it was as good as the last time I came.

I had a delicious lunch with excellent service at Jaleo. The lunch special at $28 was good value and included a nice variety of dishes from which to choose. Dining outdoors was very pleasant.

We were disappointed with our dining experience at Jaleo. First, it’s very crowded and the tables are so close together. We had loud talkers next to us on each side. The restaurant is so loud that I suspect that is why people are shouting, which increases the roar! We were disappointed paella’s are only for groups of 4-6. We’ve eaten at other Spanish tapas restaurants and they have smaller paella pans for fewer diners. The seafood pasta “ paella” needed seasoning and a bit of spice at least. We enjoyed the chicken croquettes. The garlic shrimp was tasty although vinegar was very predominant. The patas bravas were very good with a nice kick of spice. Our server was attentive and helpful. My husband’s sangria was incorrect but honestly we just wanted to eat & leave. We probably won’t return. Although the food is adequate, the restaurant isn’t relaxing or conducive for conversation.

Homeless man kept bothering my girlfriend and I leading us to cut the night short due to our discomfort. I initially reserved a table for indoors, but after we arrived we were asked if outdoor seating was okay. When we sat down, there was clearly more than one open table for two indoors. The homeless man kept approaching us and the staff essentially did nothing to address the issue.

In D.C. for a conference and treated myself to a solo dinner at my favorite chef’s restaurant—Jaleo by José Andrés. José Andrés brought the magic of Spanish tapas—small plates meant for sharing—to the U.S., and Jaleo captures that spirit beautifully. The word jaleo means the cheers and clapping that accompany flamenco dancing—an energy that lives in every dish here. Joyful, bold, and full of flavor. Tonight’s highlights: Cono de marmelada de tomate y queso de cabra – A delicate tomato marmalade and goat cheese cone. Bright, creamy, and addictive. Gambas al ajillo – Garlic-roasted shrimp, sizzling and savory. Croquetas de pollo – Classic chicken croquettes. Crispy on the outside, velvety on the inside. Pan con chocolate – Wow. Chocolate custard with caramelized bread, olive oil, and brioche ice cream. The custard was rich, the ice cream creamy and balanced—but the real star? The caramelized bread. Paper-thin, infused with olive oil and honey, crisped to perfection with fresh rosemary. Cold, creamy, crunchy, savory, sweet—every texture and taste in one bite. Dining alone never tasted so good.

Creative food. Good service. Very crowded and tables are very very close to each other. We were sitting next to a family of four. Father kept walking around the table and his hands were an inch away from our food !!

We sat outside under the shelter. That was really pleasant and not too loud. Great for a conversation. Our waiter was polite and informative although too busy to stop by very often. The dishes were just okay. The warm Brussels sprouts salad was so salty neither of us could eat it. The apple salad with walnuts was good. The potato bravas were also good. Just as expected. We liked the salmon although there was too much sauce for our liking. For dtarter we got these French bread slices with what seemed like a tomato puree on them. We did not really enjoy those. The purée made the bread soggy and there was not much flavor. The prices are pretty high. But there was a lot of food. Leftovers were packed up for lunches. They recommended 2 to 3 dishes per person, but we found that Four dishes for two people was too much food. But I like leftovers.
