Waited an hour to be sat after our reservation time and then hurried out of the restaurant by the management to turn the table. This was the standard with all patrons last night we observed. The food was mediocre, I’ve had better sushi from a chain restaurant 1000 miles away from the ocean. Not exactly what you’d expect from a fine dining establishment with the prices they were charging. I never leave a bad review on any site or have the care or time to do so but I hope to save someone else the waste of time to eat here.

We stayed at The Setai and dined at Japon for Christmas Eve dinner. The food was exceptional, but the service left much to be desired. Despite having a large number of staff, the service felt disorganized and inconsistent. It seemed like each person had a very specific role, but the coordination between them was lacking, which led to some odd experiences. For example, we ordered a bottle of champagne, but it looked like only one person – the sommelier’s assistant – was responsible for refilling glasses. Unfortunately, this meant long waits between pours. After waiting far too long, I gave up and began refilling our glasses myself. At a restaurant of this caliber, that’s not something I expect to do. Another strange aspect was the “family-style” service, which felt out of place for a restaurant offering sushi alongside more traditional entrées. I ordered sushi while my wife and daughter ordered fish, but the sushi arrived much earlier than their dishes, leaving me eating alone for a while. The food itself was fantastic, but the lack of synchronized service and the awkward pacing detracted from the overall experience. We ended up paying ~$500 and for this price point, I wouldn’t return – there are far better dining experiences to be had in Miami.

Japón was Ok. I had bigger expectations for the food, but it did not impress me. Service was great though

Food was surprisingly excellent. Concerns about this being a new, sceney hotel restaurant were unwound by consistently impressive execution. Recommend the raw/tartar portion of the menu, as fish quality was too notch. Miso cod lettuce wraps and Chilean sea bass entree also very good. Entertainment on a Saturday night was great, and not so loud that you couldn’t hold conversation seated inside the restaurant. Expensive, but consistent with comparable South Beach restaurants, and the entertainment makes for an especially unique experience. People watching is amusing, as to be expected.
