Jerk at Nite, founded by Denville Myrie, Jr. in 2012, began as a solution to the lack of late-night food options at Howard University. After seeing his peers struggle with unhealthy fast food, Denville, raised in a Jamaican household, started delivering flavorful jerk chicken and other Jamaican dishes from his dorm. What began as a small campus venture evolved into a food truck business in 2015, and later, a brick-and-mortar restaurant. The menu features healthy fusion dishes, such as jerk chicken, oxtail, and jamming’ salmon, free of MSG and preservatives. Now with multiple locations, including in D.C. and Baltimore, Jerk at Nite continues to grow and serves the community with a focus on quality and flavor.

Very disappointing experience. I’ve been hearing about this place for a while now and was so excited to try to, I always want to support my pple. Well, we were looking for a reservation but found nothing about that on the website which clearly had not been updated because it doesn’t even have the Baltimore location address on it or phone numbers for the establishment. Nonetheless we decided to show up and see. The security guard at the door said they are only taking reservations for the night and to go orders, no walk ins. She said reservation are on open table. So we checked and saw there was a 9 pm reservation available and booked it for the evening. We wanted to try it so badly that we left and came back an hour later for our reservation. We get inside and the place is basically empty. We get seated and it’s FREEZING inside, no heat in the restaurant. Our server comes over and lists of all the item they do not have for the evening. They also don’t have cocktails just rum punch. We ordered 2 rum punch and the jerk wings to start, the drinks come and are TRASH, my man didnt even drink his. We ordered our entry’s and the wait begins. We are looking around like why does no one have food, the few tables there no one is eating, strange. The wings come 30 min later, no small plates for sharing but honestly taste good. We continue waiting. An hour goes by no entry. We are sitting there cold as hell no food multiple pple asking what did you order again, honestly I couldn’t take it anymore and we payed for the wings and left. I honestly feel like this place opened and started taking business before they were truly ready and it shows. This is just my experience, I hope they get it together and can be successful

The food was delicious but service was not the best. It took over an hour to get our food & it didn’t come out at the same time. Which meant that was an additional 20+ mins. The restaurant was cold because there was no heat. Also there was a line to get in & as we were waiting we were told they were only taking reservations or you can do carry out. Was able to go on Open Table to make a reservation & once inside only a handful of people.

I’ve been impatiently waiting for the opportunity to dine at this restaurant since I heard they’d be returning to Baltimore. Sadly, my experience was subpar. Upon arrival, the doors were locked. We assumed we were at the wrong door so we walked around the building. After about 3 min, another couple also tried the door and asked us if they were closed. That’s when a guard appeared, let us in and said “I’m sorry about that”. Once inside, we were asked if we had a reservation, which we did. She proceeded to walk us upstairs to the main dining area and it was freezing! She sat us at a very small table and handed the two of us one menu and said “sorry, we’re short on menus”. My partner and I looked at each other with confusion because there were only about 15 patrons in the restaurant. I was so cold, I had to leave my coat on and eventually put my hood on because my head was freezing. Since we only had one menu, I caroused the online menu while my partner reviewed the paper menu. After being seated for 10 minutes without anyone coming over to great us or offer us water, we decided to move to the bar. Once at the bar, we told the young lady we were freezing and her response was “ we all are”. This caused me to analyze the scenery at which point I realized that everyone was shivering with coats, hoods and scarfs on. I said to her “Is the heat broken” and her response was “Girl, I don’t know what’s going on”. She gave us water and asked if we wanted a shot to warm us. I asked for a drink menu but there wasn’t one. We then asked why the prices of the online menu drastically differ from those on the paper menu and she said they paper one reflects dine-in prices. The jerk chicken online was priced at $15 but at the restaurant was priced at $42 (almost triple). I’ve never seen jerk chicken priced so ridiculously high. In fact, I’ve never seen jerk chicken priced higher than oxtail, which was about $38. The cold inside was intolerable as were those prices, so we left!

First of all, the ambience was nice but inside it was way too cold. Service was slow, and they were already out of oxtail, beef patties, and goat even though they had only been open for 3 hours when we got there. Apparently there was a catering order, but that is no excuse for running out of key ingredients mere hours within opening time. The kitchen should have received the order in advance and planned to have more ingredients on hand. The jerk wings and mac & cheese were pretty good, but the jerk nachos had a strange cheese and the rasta pastas were served cold, had way too much pepper, and were very scant on veggies. My rasta pasta with veggies literally just had four strips of bell pepper. When I left, I saw another rasta pasta with three times as much veggies. The two desserts, the bread pudding and the rum cake, were both good, although the bread pudding had way too much nutmeg for my friend's liking. Overall, this was not worth it at all, especially given the exorbitant prices. Would not recommend this place to anybody!

Disappointed, I wouldn’t return. They are still working out the kinks to just opening. However, I feel like customers should be aware of what’s going on before being allowed to book a family dinner especially for a special occasion.
