Housed in a glorious Southern mansion in the heart of Music City, Jimmy Kelly’s continues to be the standard by which all American steakhouses are measured. Founded in 1934 while the country was in the throes of the Great Depression and just one year removed from the repeal of prohibition, Jimmy Kelly made a promise to himself and his diners. Simply put, he would serve a great steak, a generous portion of whiskey and insure the service was always attentive. Making good on that promise has been the cornerstone of the restaurant’s success and enabled it to survive and flourish. Now over 80 years later and operated by the third generation of Kellys, it has earned a reputation as one of the grand old restaurants not only in Nashville but the entire southeast. Come anytime and enjoy a great steak and a generous portion of whiskey!

Delicious meal! Great service! First table location was next to a rehearsal dinner. Way too loud, but we were moved and had a wonderful dinner.

Here’s a draft of your review: I’ve been a longtime customer of Jimmy Kelly’s and have enjoyed many great meals here over the years, but unfortunately, this last visit was disappointing. I made a reservation for 4:00 on their website, but upon arrival, I was told the restaurant didn’t open until 4:30. It’s confusing why they would allow reservations for a time they weren’t open. The hostesses seemed disorganized and simply pointed me toward my table instead of walking me there, so I decided to sit at the bar instead. The bartender, to their credit, was excellent—friendly, attentive, and professional. Unfortunately, the food didn’t live up to expectations this time; it was mediocre at best. The ambiance, usually a highlight of Jimmy Kelly’s, was also lacking. They were in the middle of renovations, which meant I had to navigate around tools and workers just to enter. During my meal, I could hear construction noises like pounding, which really detracted from the experience. This visit fell short in so many ways, and after many years of dining here, it’s hard to say, but this may be my last visit.

Waited an extra 30 minutes after our reservation for our table. Another 20 just to get menus. Another 15 to get our drinks. All the tables were smushed together so it was noisy. The steak wasn’t cooked all the way. The waiter took forever to check on us throughout the night.

The prices have increased significantly over the past 12 months and the food quality has not.

They are clearly over booked and understaffed for the holiday period. Bar tender did not know how to make a Manhattan. 2 drinks - $21 each. Ordered the bone in filet and it was flavorless. The waiter killed himself to support us, but the food, drinks, and atmosphere we're just not worth a $400 evening.

Have gone to this restaurant for years; but the new menu and prices will make me think twice - I’d probably rather go to Jeff Ruby’s.

We arrived at 6:15 to check in for our 630 reservation. At 7:30. We were finally seated after much back-and-forth with the hostess station. service was sporadic with 15 min between every course , one steak undercooked, mashed potatoes watery. Cocktails , water, etc always late, baked potatoes cold as were corn cakes would not melt cheese or butter, my birthday dessert was on the check. Good crab stuffed sea bass and onion rings. Worst experience at JK’s ever and I have gone there forever. Won’t go back. Very disappointing for the four of us.

I have to say the service was outstanding. From the bartenders while waiting for a table to the server. Friendly, outgoing and knowledgeable. Prices are a bit outrageous but lifting the limits on number of gift cards allowed is a big plus. The appetizers are very good and also the entrees. The bootlegger and the stuffed seabass - both very good. Creams spinach not so great - way to watery. I loved the au gratin potatoes but husband not a fan. I think we might try happy hour next time - the bar bites menu looks very good. And absolutely appreciate the valet parking. Will be back.
