Terrible service. Steak was undercooked (ordered as medium and came as rare) and COLD. They forgot about our food so we had to wait over 45 mins after appetizers were cleared for the mains to come out. They ended up comping our entire bill.

What a perfect night out with friends!! My server, Reuben was warm, friendly, and cheerful. The food was delicious and cooked to perfection. We ordered house baked bread with whipped butter and sea salt. Bread was soft and fluffy light. Buttered mushrooms was so good!! Spicy Habanero Butter Shrimp was flavorful and not spicy at all. The grilled king salmons and rib eye steak dishes were perfectly seasoned. We were so full but had to finish off with the flourless chocolate cake and my favorite, the bananas foster, a spectacular cooking show of a flambé banana liqueur, Cruzan “151” rum, and cinnamon served on vanilla ice cream. Yum!!! Overall, it was a great spot to celebrate something special and I cannot wait to the next visit.

As a local in the Seattle area who frequents the Pacific Northwest steak scene, I had high expectations for John Howie Steak, especially given its reputation. While the extensive whiskey, wine, and spirits list was undoubtedly impressive and one of the largest I’ve encountered in the region, I found the steak itself to be underwhelming. Considering the many exceptional steakhouses in Seattle and the PNW that emphasize local quality and flavor, I was hoping John Howie would deliver a similar standard. Unfortunately, the steak didn’t live up to the quality I’ve come to expect from the area’s top establishments. It lacked the depth and local flair that distinguish the PNW steak scene, leaving me disappointed overall. If you’re looking for an incredible drink selection, John Howie certainly delivers. However, for a memorable steak, other local favorites might offer a better experience in both flavor and value.

The food was great, but at times we found ourselves looking for our server, especially at the beginning of our meal. We left the restaurant at 10:30 PM on a Tuesday and the entire complex was locked down. We were unable to use the elevators down to the Parkade for our cars. The only way in was to go out to the street and enter through the car entrance I would expect an establishment like this would have a better way for their guests to access their parking .

The best part of the experience was the food. The various steaks were very flavorful - cooked just right and the right balance of fat and meat. The lobster mashed potatoes, table bread, and wines were great. The lobster bisque was not good, it lacked flavor. I did not like that the seating area was so loud, the temperature was too cold and the seating set up was not ideal. My partner was seated in front of me but was too far away. There was a long bench that stretched the length of the seating area that she and other patrons on that side of the tables sat on, while I sat on a chair. The set up was not warm or welcoming. The waiter was nice but felt like he was in a rush, talking somewhat fast and seemed to be overwhelmed by the number of tables and people he was serving. It wasn't a welcoming feeling. He wasn't rude, but it just didn't feel like our presence was truly valued. The folks who brought the bread, filled our water glasses, and cleared the table were great. Overall, given the above and the total price of the outing, I was not satisfied and will not return. I expect more for that price range.

Thank you for taking the time and sharing your feedback. We pride ourselves on creating an exceptional dining experience and never want a guest to leave unsatisfied. I hope you spoke with a manager that evening? We gladly would have replaced your lobster bisque and found other seating arrangements. I will speak with our dining room manager later today and we both will follow up with your service team. It’s from our valued guests’ feedback that makes us strive for continuous improvement. Again, I appreciate the time and have a wonderful weekend. Best, Tim Lodahl GM/Beverage Director John Howie Steak & Whiskey by JH

Just canceled Thanksgiving dinner for our whole family at JH based on our experience this weekend. 1) service- awkward, incorrect, and not fine dining. Sever kept calling my husband “boss” this is not a golf club. Told us we shouldn’t order steak MR but rather Medium as the chef recommended and was insistent. Insane. Served us a $25 9 -year whisky rather than the $350 22 year whiskey that was requested which makes sense why it was treated with zero deference and when asked for a pipette, we were given plastic cocktail straws. We asked a bewildered busser to get the wine steward because we didn’t trust the server to get the right bottle (rightfully we now realize. If the wine steward is a somm, I’d be shocked. She appeared a bit disheveled and actually pushed wine glasses wildly out of position on the table to make room, which is a s”wine service faux pas. I actually stopped watching so I can’t speak to how the plates were laid or picked up by other staff. 2) The food was fine. The truffle fries were cold. The bread was not kept on the table because no one liked it. Mostly hard breads and croutons. The Brussels were totally unbalanced with excessive vinegar. The “medium” steak came rare/medium rare. The corn was the highlight. The cherry bread pudding saved the day. 3) ambiance is lacking. Though the design and finishes are lovely the vibes are off and it’s giving hotel owned restaurant. I had the same feeling last visit a decade ago. It was a Sunday night and very slow which can account for that. Basically, it was a long time between visits and it will be a long time again. The staff is out of their depth and the place lacks an X factor. There is another storied steakhouse in Bellevue that still delivers top tier service and swank. I’ll stick with them.

Brianna Thank you for taking the time and sharing your feedback. I apologize that your experience did not live up to your or my expectations. I have spoken with your server and our dining room manager who will follow up with other service members from that evening. I hope you spoke with a manager during service? We pride ourselves on creating an exceptional dining environment and never want a guest or guests to leave unsatisfied. It seems that we failed in the executive of your dining experience. We will use your review as a training tool for the staff. It’s from our valued guests’ feedback that makes us strive for continuous improvement. I'd like to send you something for a future visit would you please provide a mailing address. Again, I appreciate the time. Best, Tim Lodahl GM
