  • Neighborhood gem
The Kinneuchar Inn is a 17th-century pub and restaurant which champions great food in an intimate setting. We recently were awarded Best Local Restaurant in Scotland 2023 by The Good Food Guide.

We serve a daily changing 'a la carte' menu, based on ingredients sourced from the Balcaskie Estate and a handful of carefully curated partners. Our menus are seasonal and produce-led, aiming to highlight the quality of the ingredients.

Helmed by James Ferguson (formerly of The Connaught and East London eatery Beagle) and partner Alethea Palmer.

Loved the seasonal menu .Great choice of dishes from snacks to desserts. Good sized portions. Despite being full we ordered Madeline’s to share at the end of our meal -they were made freshly and tasted amazing . We booked the bar area as we had our dog with us ,lovely staff looked after him with treats and water. Looking forward to a return trip ,hopefully soon 👍

We'd been planning to dine at Kinneuchar Inn for ages and were really looking forward to it. First things first - the food was excellent, with perfectly-cooked cod, and a delicious aubergine and chickpea dish that was probably the nicest vegetarian main course I've eaten in a Scottish restaurant. However, we felt the experience itself could have been better. We ate in the dining room and the back door leading into the garden area was wide open all night, meaning the room was chilly. I would have asked for it to be closed but service was inattentive and in a pretty full restaurant, it was hard to catch the attention of staff. During our meal, nobody checked in to see if everything was ok, or to ask if we wanted to order more drinks. My husband had a cocktail that wasn't as well-made as expected - the mint leaves were broken into pieces rather than just bruised to release flavour, meaning every sip left a cluster of leaves in the mouth. The restaurant was very noisy, making it hard to chat. I walked through the bar area later to go to the toilet and this section had a much nicer ambience, cosy and conducive to chat. When we paid our bill at the end of the evening, the waitress simply held the machine out in front of me, pointing to the screen to allow me to add on a tip. The first option on the screen was for a 12.5% service charge, which frankly, I felt was a bit steep for a table for two who hadn't had much in the way of exemplary service. No member of staff made any attempt to engage in chat or friendly conversation during our visit and we weren't made to feel especially welcomed. Most other diners appeared to be tourists from outside Fife - perhaps this is the preferred clientele. As we left, we collected our own jackets and looked over at the bar area to say goodbye and thank you to the staff gathered there, but nobody even acknowledged us or thanked us for coming. I thought this was disappointing, considering we'd just spent £115 on a meal for two.

We had a table in the bar booked for 14:15, but they were very busy so unfortunately the service was a bit slow. Luckily we opted for some olives and nuts with our drinks as our first course didn’t arrive until 15:25. That said, when the food did arrive it was very good indeed. We had the lamb and the cod, which was perfectly cooked and well presented. We will definitely go back but maybe get a table in the restaurant and at a quieter time.
